As Played Call River?

Recommended Posts

Just sat down at the table with no reads and accidentally hit raise and min-raised rather than potting pre flop.I read the turn bet as a blocker bet for a low draw... That is what confused me the most about the hand.I still would have folded the river to a PSB, but his bet looked weakish.Thoughts?PokerStars Game #6935736132: Omaha Hi/Lo Pot Limit ($1/$2) - 2006/11/07 - 21:41:38 (ET)Table 'Caph III' 9-max Seat #4 is the buttonSeat 1: magicmike ($175.10 in chips) Seat 2: jjgoldy5 ($198 in chips) Seat 3: Thrash123 ($117.80 in chips) Seat 4: 7751577 ($275.40 in chips) Seat 5: bearex ($273.50 in chips) Seat 6: lwrunner103 ($200 in chips) Seat 7: WilyTilt ($233.10 in chips) Seat 8: stokie ($43.40 in chips) Seat 9: JonahAA ($112.90 in chips) bearex: posts small blind $1lwrunner103: posts big blind $2*** HOLE CARDS ***Dealt to jjgoldy5 [Ah 2h Ad 7d]WilyTilt: folds stokie: folds JonahAA: calls $2magicmike: folds jjgoldy5: raises $2 to $4Thrash123: folds 7751577: folds bearex: folds lwrunner103: folds JonahAA: calls $2*** FLOP *** [2d Jd 8h]JonahAA: checks jjgoldy5: bets $10JonahAA: calls $10*** TURN *** [2d Jd 8h] [Js]JonahAA: bets $12jjgoldy5: calls $12*** RIVER *** [2d Jd 8h Js] [Tc]JonahAA: bets $22

i wouldn't call the turn without first deciding how much of a bet you're going to call on the river UI. i think if you call the turn you have to call the river as played, so yes.i'm actually folding the turn fairly often here since he just woke up on that jack. it could indeed be a low blocker, but we repped like a2xx with the min raise preflop, so i'd imagine he thinks our low is ****ed right now anyway. we do have an emergency low, but i don't like drawing to those so much as having them. that said, he can't possibly put you on aces here, so he could be playing KK/QQ just the same. it's a tough spot, but like i said, i think i fold the turn pretty often barring reads.

I don't usually play like this, but Im a great run lately.. and my confidence is through the roof. This is how the hand played out in my head:Flop: Likely have the best high hand / best high draw, willing to chunk to a stiff re-raise, happy to take down the pot here.Turn: Interesting card, odd bet. I might be ahead here, and could improve with an ace or diamond on the river and have a weak low draw as a back up. Decide to call and re-evaluate river.River: Villain's bet screamed weakness to me and getting 2.5:1, I called.I realize I could have saved myself a lot of trouble by folding the turn...I just couldn't put the villain on a jack. I would think a pot sized bet would be in order with a naked jack in order to chase out low/flush draws.Meh...Kind of a toss up I guess.

yeah, it's a difficult feel hand for sure. i certainly could see myself playing and making either play on different tables.all i wanted to say is that it's very important in pl games to not call turn bets without first deciding how much you're calling on the river UI. this is one of those spots.

If you are calling the turn, you should probably expect a bigger bet on the river. I would call, but I rarely get myself into these situations. $22 to call and the pot was $55 before the river was dealt? Not bad pot odds with your AA here.
