OK, here's my story. I have had a wireless connection for over a year and I have never, ever, once, had a stable connection. I've tried three different types of routers. I am currently on a D-LINK gaming router that is supposed to be able to divert your connection to the computer that needs it, and it isn't working any better than the last one.

The symptoms:

My connection is intermittent. It goes out for about 30-45 seconds at a time, then comes back up. I play on 3 sites, and it happens when I'm running, one, both, or all of them. I would love to play on Full Tilt but this is for some reason more unstable than all of them and will cause almost constant disconnect problems.

I have tried changing the channel, fidgeting with the settings, I even had the geek squad come out and look at it when I was on my first router. He suggested a new router which I bought. Didn't fix it. Just using common sense, I am assuming it is something on my home modem or computer setting that is causing this. However, I know absolutely nothing about the advanced settings, etc, that I can use to determine/fix this problem.

My offer:

$50 transferred to you on a site of you choice if you remedy the problem for me. $20 if you refer me to a person that gets the job done, and I'll wire them the other $30 in any way necessary.

Please PM me and we can talk by phone or by AIM if you are someone that can help.

Hey, it's not life changing money, but I'm not sure how else I can get this done. I am out of plays. Please help! Thanks!

im still not sold that many of these people that get these big online scores are winners when it comes to the live game, which, by the way, is real poker.

Ouch 8's has the floor right now, if his ideas don't pan out I'll come back and we'll see if the $50 is still up for grabs.

Something in your home is operating at or near the frequency of the wireless...

I'd suspect a cordless phone first, then other things like garage door openers and burgular alarms

Turn off all breakers in the box serving the house except the one that feeds the setup... generally marked "bedroom plugs" or something like that

Dont worry about the furnace or AC unless you have a wireless thermostat (almost always used with a geo-thermal or zonal type system)

Once in a while a dimmer for lights can emit frequencies that screw with things, so cutting the power to everything can isolate them too

According to law, the router must allow outside interference to upset it, but not produce it

If the interference stops, just start turning breakers on until it starts again and you found the prob

If it stays, borrow a frequency counter from a computer or electronics store and see what wavelengths you are getting.

The FCC will also come by (takes them a few weeks) and follow up on a complaint from interference

Have you checked the cable? Get a quality cable. Check your splitters? Get quality splitters if you use them.

I have one computer that behaves exactly like that. Before I used it much, my wife had it checked out by a computer guy, and he said it was fine. Then I tried playing poker on it, and get pretty much those same symptoms.

I explained to the computer guy the pattern, he said the most likely reason is a bad wireless card in your computer. This, of course, it based on the fact that a couple of othe computers work flawlessly from the same spot in the house.

So, if you only have one computer, find a friend with a wireless laptop. Have them sit at the exact same spot in your house, get them on your network, and give it a try.

If their computer works, it's probably your wireless card acting flaky. If their computer does not work, it may be intereference. Take your computer and set it next to the wireless router. If it still fails, then it is almost certainly your wireless card. If it works next to your router, then you are just too far away or getting interference.
