Hello everyone. This hand came up this weekend while playing 1-2 NL at the Borgata. I was in middle position and called $7 with 45 clubs. The button made it 20 to go. Now as an aside I had a good read on that player already by this point in the night. He woul make large pre-flop raises with AK and AQ, usually either 15 or 20. Now I bought in for only 150 and was up to 375 at this point. He was a very agressive player and had close to 900 when I sat down. The small blind myself and the button played the pot. Obviously I called the 13 more for two reasons. Pot odds and implied odds. This is a hand that is very easy to get away from if you dont hit it hard, and since I put the button on two overs I could make a play at an all rags pot and probably take it down.So the flop comes down like a dream for me 4-k-5 rainbow. Now the sb leads out with a 20 dollar bet. Not wanting more than heads up the rest of the way, since my hand was probably not going to improve, I made it 100 straight. Now the button called and the sb folded. The turn brought a ten and it went check check. Of course the river brought another ten and at that point I knew I was beat and he turned over AK for kings and tens.Immediately I questioned my check on the turn and asked would you have gotten away from the hand if I went all in on the turn ( another 250), to wich he replied no way. The dealer agreed as did most at the table saying he wasn tgoing anywhere with TPTK and his stack.Basically my thought was I was a favorite to win the pot on the turn, and would have been fine with winning the 300 already in there. If I made that bet and he called and got lucky I would have busted myself. Considering I am 85% to win there, did I just get unlucky or did I play the hand too passively

would you have gone all in had no A no K or no pair of the board occurred? If so I can see argument for looking for a safe card, otherwise if i thought he had ak or AQ i would have gone all in on the turn and made him drop it or draw to very little, either, inside straight draw, or an 8 outter.

Yes at that point if no ace or king or paired ten hits I defintely go all in. The reason I waited was because I felt he wasnt going to get away from that hand on the turn, so I would have been putting all my money out there and just hoping for it to hold up. By checking I thought that worse case scenario (which happened) I would save my other 275 or so and at leas still be healthy in the game. I guess I should have also noted that I saw the game as being rather weak and one that I could beat with some patience.

technically, you shouldn't have checked the turn.but with your logic, knowing he would call any safe river anyway, your play was fine.aseem
