DrawingDeadInDM 0
Okay, I'm willing to give you that Kerry's apparent jab at the troops was nothing more than a botched joke. But, what was the joke supposed to be? I'm really confused by this.."You know what happens if you become intellectually lazy..? You end up invading Iraq."Is that what it was supposed to be? That's about the only mildly comical way I could see it having been intended. Someone clear it up for me, please, if I'm mistaken.Oh, and there's plenty of topics floating around to discuss politics; I'm discussing humor.

RhinestoneCowboy 2
It was supposed to be a shot at the president, but I am curious what the joke was going to be as well..I heard the soundbyte on the radio this morning..and when he said the line the people around him actually laughed. Maybe they get it and I don't...

JSHamm 9
Except that Bush isn't in Iraq. Thus, if that was the case, it wasn't funny. Not literally, but he called for the invasion of Iraq; thus, the intellectually lazy jump at the chance to invade Iraq instead of logically reasoning why not to invade Iraq. keith crime 8
no the joke is that if you are dumb and don't study a situation you wind up making horrible decisions like invading iraq and winding up with a quagmire where tons of people die every day

This isn't a political debate. Take what Kerry said, adjust a few words, and turn it into a joke...and please don't make it something like "If you don't go to school and get an education.....BUSH IS STOOPID"

DrawingDeadInDM 0
Actually.. I still don't really get how that's supposed to be funny. I can see it as a statement of an opinion. "If you end up intellectually lazy, you'll end up walking us into what I believe was an unnecessary war." I don't see how that's going to bring the house down, really. But, hey, I've never had much of a sense of humor. I personally would've gone somewhere along the lines of.. "You know what happens when you don't study? And you party all the time? Plod along all day and get a C average? Well, if you're lucky, Dad will buy you a pro baseball team, your brother will toss his weight around and you'll end up running this country into the ground some day.. But, for most of you.... "I'm a Republican and I could see the humor in that.Oh, and Alan/Keith, if this becomes another bunch of bickering and verbal jousting about Iraq/Bush, please lock it. Thanks. You know the type I'm sure; the cool kid in high school who doesn't actually do anything except mock everyone else. Maybe it wasn't meant so much to be funny primarily but more insulting in a tongue in cheek way, which makes it more pathetic than anything.

He might've been a grass-smoking hippy, but, I don't think he's a communist. That's why I'm honestly trying to figure out what he thought was funny.

And I agree with the second part. I think you called it what it appears to be to everyone else; him preaching. If anyone has any idea where the punchline was, or what it could have been, let me know. Tell me what's humorous about it? Clue me in here, Keith. I really don't get it. There's 954 ways he could've made his statement funny and I haven't seen on TV, talked to another person, or read online from any human being that they found what he said amusing, whether they're a Democrat, Republican, Communist, Whig, whatever, but you claim it's obvious. (I assume)Edit: or maybe it was spin by calling it a joke, like when you walk up to a white friend at a club and call him your nigga, then two people over a black guy is glaring at you and you say, "it was a joke homey"
