was this play too aggressive?

I'm kind of a newbie to multi table tourneys. I was playing a 100 player tourney on line and got nailed on the first hand. :oops: I made a play, and he called. I've got three questions, but first I'll set up the situation.It's the first hand of a ten table internet tourney. Each of us are given $1000 in tournament chips.I am in the small blind. My hand is 5 4 . There were four callers before the flop, but no raise.The first caller was in mid position. He was the guy who busted me.The flop comes 9 8 6 , which gives me the flush draw, and a gutshot straight draw. I decide to try the water and bet $250. Question 1: Was this enough? Should I have risked more of my stack to make him think my hand was stronger such as an overpair, or trips?The single mid position guy calls, everyone else folds.The turn comes 3 . Giving me an open end straight draw to go along with my flush. At this point I've got 17 outs. So, assuming my last bet represented strength, I pushed all in.He hesitates for a while. Thinks, and then calls. He turns over an A 9 .The river is no help and I'm busted.Question 2: Was this too aggressive. Should I have had more outs to make such a play?Question 3: Would you have made the call on me for all your chips if you were my opponent?

So, assuming my last bet represented strength, I pushed all in. im assuming you think those are a 2(4) 7(4) or spade(9)which first is only 15 because you already counted the 2 and 7 of spades so 2(3) 7(3) spade(9)now its 122(3) spade(9)if a 7 comes the board will have 6789 on it, you cant really be sure you 5 is goodbut back to your point, you might have been a little too aggressive

What were the starting blinds?I would have checked after the flop as you were first to act and there's not much in the pot yet assuming that the blinds are low.You have some draws but you have no position - why fire out a quarter of your stack on a draw to win a small pot?I'm surprised your opponent called with TPTK although many players fall in love with that. He should have folded IMHO.

Still, do you think his was a good call?i guess yeah, considering it was the best handbut if I was in his shoes I probably woulda folded that preflop, I maybe woulda been able to make the call

Hiwith 4 callers + you and maybe the BB and assuming blinds of 10/20, would that not make only 120 in the pot? Its possible the A9 read your bet as strong-is-weak

a little too aggressive.....maybe a bad call on his part but you have no info on him since it is early in the tourney and you don't know what kind of player he is.....no need to risk it all on a draw that maybe isn't all the way live
