Footballguru 0
I have dell inspiro 6000. My LCD screen looked real dirty so i decided to clean it. Spray some all purpose cleaner and wipe it off. still some more dirt so do it again. and again 1 more time till its nice and clean. then all of a sudden screen turns like blurry and fked up. I turn it off then back on, doesnt really work. Realized i broke my goddamned screen. I must be ****ing mentally retarded. Heres my WONDERFUL ****ING options:Send in to Dell and get it repaird like new.............for 500 hundred dollars and entire CPU only cost me 1kBuy external monitor for 50-200$. WIll work but will lose the point of owning a laptop.Buy a new computer for 1k ish.WTF how am i so fking stupid. I really want to shoot myself sometimes. What would you guys do if this *hypothetically* happened to you. ( we all know I am the only person on earth to do something this stupid)
DonkSlayer 1
Did you little companion book with the computer say you can't use all-purpose on it? If not, you might have a sporting chance at having them replace it for you.

See where I'm headed with this?I'm impossible to list all of the dont'sgood luck OPlesson learned, an expensive one sadly.

If not, you might have a sporting chance at having them replace it for you.very good idea!! maybe even negotiate with them, it's an outside shot but it might work. Tell them you are using this computer for only another year or so, so if they split the cost with you it would be remembered when you are in the market in a year. They might even come back at you and say well we maybe can work a deal with you for a new computer now, for a good price.!try it, it works
SuitedAces21 2,741
That sucks man. If you havent told the people at Dell what happened yet, try and find a way to lie about what happened and get a new comp. Maybe tel them you cleaned it how the manual says (look that up) and then it got all messed up.
Ouch-8s 5
Just ask the obvious -all purpose cleanser can smear the non-reflective coating, is that what happened here? Did you spray it on the monitor (no no) or on a cloth (less of a no no)? Did you get a Complete Care waranty? If you did, you could throw it down the stairs, jump up and down on it, and clear it with Mexico's urine and they would still replace it...If you do replace it, get Complete Care. It's expensive but worth it - laptops break too easily.
SBriand 4
That sucks. Here is a question though, what can you use?I just bought a new lap top and I have smudges on the screen but I worry about what the OP went through. What can you use? I used my camcorders lense tissues but that didn't really work.

On the phone the way the woman told me the price it sounded like the opposite of negotiable. "498 plus tax". Like a robot. Although it makes sense from a business standpoint I doubt that a company like Dell would ever work this way. but maybe???Just ask the obvious -all purpose cleanser can smear the non-reflective coating, is that what happened here? It's expensive but worth it - laptops break too easily.the big no no. I had no idea about LCD screens, didnt even think it would affect it. The warranty i have does not come into effect with what she said "accidental" problems. And I already told them the truth about what happened. ithought about lying to them, but im sure they would have found out when they went to fix it and found some 409 cleaner in the screen. It is pretty simple to do, just have to be careful and make sure you dont lose any screws. It'll still cost you about $250... but that is still half of what dell wants to charge you. mrdannyg 274
i think you should sue the all-purpose cleaner maker. unless it says "all-purpose cleaner, but will likely break anything important you try to clean," then i think it is being falsely advertised, since it seems implied that if it cleans something, then that thing should not break. Wandigo 1
Not sure if this helps you but last week my dad broke the "G" key off his laptop. And since Dell wanted him to send it in to them and wait 2 weeks to get it back, he just took a new "G" key off a display laptop in Best Buy. Good luck cruisin outta there with a monitor though.. No_Neck 0
if you try to call them, make sure you talk to somone in the US, the Indian people are brick walls, they will just keep saying I am sorry sir that is our policy. tell them to tranfer you. Talk to a supervisor, they are the only ones that can really do anything.

I know that certain screens require certain cleaners, but did it ever occur to you that some people may be a tad sceptical about having to buy an extra cleaner just for their computer that just happens to be much more expensive than any other cleaner on the market?
