This is always a tough spot for me.

Villain may see your bet as a whiffed c-bet and is trying to push you off the hand. Or, more likely, he hit a set. I don't think he would play back at you like that with AQ.

I don't see a need to get TPTK involved with villain at this point and I would probably let it go.

Bad villains don't check-raise that big with sets. Granted, we don't know that he's bad. That is to say, this could just as easily be a flush draw as it is top pair or a set. The problem is that the stacks are pretty deep, so with no reads, I don't think we have to play a big pot with just TPTK.

This is exactly a scenario in the past when I have gotten stacked in NL cash and then vow to stop overplaying TPTK

Then I do it again

Are you saying that a villain who's a good player will check raise that amount with a set there?

i don't see how you could ever fold.. i mean, it's not overplaying tptk when you call a check/ raise that could easily be a worse q or flush draw or air or whatever. i guess you folded and he showed you a set or something?

I'm saying that's a possibility. "Good" villains will realize that the board is coordinated, so they'll generally either lead out on the flop or check-raise a goodly amount. "Bad" villains put the min-check-raise.

ok. Thanks for clarifying. I was thinking that was exactly the raise I'd put in there with a set, so I was just wonderin.
