The following hand occured recently in a $20+2 NLH freezeout on FTP.I was 10th in chips with about 100 of 140 players remaining. The blinds were only 50-100 when I was dealt A :) A :D 2 off the button. The man UTG limped and the man 2 off the gun merely doubled the blind to 100. Instead of trapping, I figured an early position limper and raiser must= someone has a strong hand, hence I decided to isolate my aces against one of the early position players and made it 450 to go (I had roughly 4300 when the hand started.) The limper UTG called and the raiser folded. Great, I thought, this guy has JJ-KK or maybe AK. Now the flop comes A-3-6 and he checks to me. Now, I had already trapped somebody early in the tournament with a set of 9's so I decided checking here may arise some suspicion, causing me to bet out 400 into a pot of 1050. He immediately raised me to 800. Sensing he must have AK now, I moved all-in.What did he call me with?4 :) 5 :) , Giving him a backdoor flush and an open-ended straight draw. The turn came Jack and the river.... 2.So there I was, busted with a set of aces against a guy who called me down with 5-high. Had I won the hand I would have been the early chip leader.Thoughts?

Was it Daniel Negreanu?
LOL, You really think he would make that call? I don't- price wasn't right and if he lost the hand he would have a mere 120 left. All the other moves, maybe though.

". . . when you have a Pair of Aces and a single Ace flops (giving you a set of trips) . . . there'll always be the possiblity that the next card off could make someone a Straight"Doyle Brunson, Super SystemI would never slow play a set of aces , even if it looks unlikely he's got a straight draw. He got lucky, you played it right. That's poker, at least he had an open straight draw. However, I would have made a bigger raise pre-flop, for exactly that reason. I'd rather face the raiser calling my big raise with 9,9 than a limper trying to see a cheap flop with suited connectors. I would have bet 3 or 4 X the pot at that point. I want to be against another strong hand on the flop, rather than a drawing hand who has 2 live cards.

I probably wouldnt have stayed with that hand heads up but in a multi way pot, from the button thats a monster draw, I wouldn't go All inn with it Thats an implied odds hand from hell. But I wouldn't be too worried about that call, Now when he calls your all inn with k2 and runner runners ks then Ill feel your pain and offer you a shoulder.after all it was a 60-40 shot, thats all some people (ie. Gus hansen ) need to put it in the middle.
