I was shocked with the recent death of Steve Irwin. The guy seemed invinsible. He was so full of life and his death was freakish, tragic, and rare. When I first read about it online, my jaw dropped. I couldn't believe it. This got me to think of other deaths that really hit home when I first had heard about them. You know, that sick stomach feeling that you feel instantly. It's such a sick feeling.

Mitch Hedberg - I was lucky enough to see him perform his stand up comedy routine at the Improv a few months before his sad and unexpected death. That night was truly magnificent. Every word that came out of him became a laugh riot. Mitch had a one of a kind sense of humor. News got out that Mitch died, and I was out with my girlfriend, when my friend had called me to inform that he had just passed away, it was on the news. If there is one way to ruin someones night, this would be it.

Phil Hartmen - Man this was so long ago it seems. I became familiar with Phil mainly from The Simpsons, and sadly, remember him well in that Jingle All The Way movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Hey I was a kid at the time, and that movie rocked. So I get home from school, and my Mom is on the couch. She says "Phil Hartmen was killed today." What? So I watch the news, and he was shot to death. What a horrible way to go. He seemed like a nice guy.

Chris Farley - Yeah this one was hard to take as well. I remember being online searching for porn, chatting with friends, when one of them told me "Chris Farley is dead." Um no, I don't believe you. That's horrible to say such a thing. Sure enough it became instant news. It was true. He was my favorite SNL member. Damnit.

Is it just me, or do these events stick with you too? I find it odd that I remember what I was doing when I heard about these deaths. Mitch Hedberg was by far the hardest for me. Seeing someone in person only to hear they died not to long after is tough. As for the others, they were entertainers. Just like all of us, we become fond of these people. It's as if you know them, and even if they don't know you, it doesn't matter.

Discuss some of your thoughts. Who in particular stands out in your mind? Bored @ work.

You owe it to yourself to buy the News Radio DVDs. Hartman's best work other than his top few SNL skits.

QFT best sitcom ever not named seinfeld, and if it didnt have Andy **** it might be better
I opened up a container of yogurt, and under the lid it said "Please Try Again," because apparently they were having a contest I was unaware of. But I thought I might have opened the yogurt wrong. Or maybe Yoplait was trying to inspire me — "C'mon, Mitchell, don't give up. Please try again. A message of inspiration from your friends at Yoplait — Fruit on the bottom, hope on top."

Good point. What I mean to say is that I was surprised after learning how he died. A Stingray? That's just as absurd if Sigfreid and Roy were done in by a puppy.

And I agree, Hartman in Newsradio is classic. I have the first two seasons.
