My first reaction was whether the cop would have taken this action if the alleged attacker wasn't a professional athlete?

i doubt it. on one hand, it'd be pretty silly to sue someone who isn't a professional athlete for millions for physical assault, since they won't have it.

this sounds like a run-of-the-mill type thing, where vandenbussche should be charged properly. it seems pretty absurd for a police officer to file civil charges against someone for assault.
