Going over this thread, I'd just like to give a big LOL at the idea of MK calling someone else a condescending ass.

I just read the thread. I'm a long time fan of Monster, think Metallica has it's limited place in my life.

How did this thread go by without mention of the selling off of Basquiats, or Lars' elfin father. If you ever get a chance to watch the deleted scenes, the birthday scene is something so beautiful and selfish I'm surprised it could be captured on film.

Bands hated: the Doors, RHCP, Sublime

The thread got derailed early by ppl reacting to my Metalica hate, and not focusing on the magic of SKoM. The prospect of deleted scenes makes me giddy.

Agree completely about rhcp and sublime. The Doors I think are titanically overrated, but I do enjoy many of their song with ironic glee. The End is a flabbergastingly hilarious and indulgent song.

Everything about The Doors makes me want to blow up society and start over living in a cave with rocks for pillows. The tortured "poet" shaman shitty music suckhole.
The above is my best decision in a while.

Oh, I mean the door's fan base is absolutely the nut low, and Morrison was hilariously self-indulgent. But I'm a sucker for organists in rock, and there are a lot of their songs that I enjoy mostly because of Manzarek. I think it's good solid rock-pop. Not the key to some sort of transcendental truth of existence or w/e like some stoned out doors fans think. But I'll tap my foot when love her madly comes on, and smile when people are strange comes on.

I mean, it's a sin on some level, that the Doors were the band to break out huge from that scene and not Love, but I'm not a player hater.

Also, I am a GIANT sucker for the indulgent, horrible, rock "epic" songs of 8 minutes plus, and The End is absolutely the most hilarious example of that type of song. The audacity of making that song is just.. flabbergasting.

I feel like I've been polarized into defending the doors and that's the absolute last thing I want to do. It's more they are at the top of a tier of shitty classic rock bands that I hate, more than that I like them. I don't own any doors and wouldn't buy any. Though, I do pop The End on, on Youtube, from time to time.

I've changed my position on U2 a bit. They were the worst band in the 90s and 00s, but their mediocrity in the 80s is compelling.

Dave Mathews might be the champ.
