who wouldn't rather play poker than go to school every day? I'd rather my neighbor looked like Jessica Biel but she doesn't. That's not the point.and don't play the tourney, $5 against your teenage friends is a massive difference from $50 against adults.keep playing with your friends and having fun.

don't be afraid just because they are 30+ year olds, that means nothing, they might be good, they might not be good. You have no real way of knowing unless you try it out, if you can afford to lose $50, play on PLAYA!

DANGER!!! Hijack coming......and therein lies the problem with America. Priorities. He wants a poker education before he completes his primary education.Work on the basics, dude. Understanding effective communication makes you a better poker player. Really, it does. Not to mention good Math skills (yeah, a bit of an assumption here, but if the kid can't spell, he probably slept through math class too). Good Poker isn't just about sitting down and learning the hands. What this country needs is more illiterate Poker players. Thanks Moneymaker.Ok......Geezer rant over.Dude, play in the tourney. Consider the $50 as part of your poker education. Any time you sit at the table you should learn something. Enjoy it and don't let the old folks (never trust anyone over 30) intimidate you.

So you spelled "since" wrong again. LOL, Anyway, you still haven't answered ANYONE'S questions yet. 1.) Do you have a poker bankroll?2.) Do you feel that a $50 buy in is above your head?3.) Will you play scared money/intimidated, or normal?4.) Do you know how to spell "sense"? I mean since. :club:

Just a couple of observations 1. Just from the "youngness" of your post it doesn't really sound like you even have a solid poker knowledge base to play with. I'd be willing to bet that there are a lot of "moves" that go on in your $5 tourney.2. Bankroll management - unless you have $1000 in that roll, then you shouldn't be playing $50 tourneys.3. As a learning experience it may be worth it - just so you can see how different it is playing with people who have been around the game longer. This may vary seeing how there are so many people who have just started playing in the last 4-5 years - some of them may have been playing less than you. Point is, most likely you will be outmatched and will be out your $50 in a hurry.

The worst thing that could happen to you at 17 is winning this $50 tournament.

This is a very good point. It seems the OP is already blind to education enough, it would only perpetuate the problem if he were to win a low limit tourney and think that he was possibly capable of making a living at it.

Like everyone else said, if you can afford to lose $50 then go ahead and play.Just don't try and run the table over, play smart and you should gain a lot of valuable experience. And ............................ pay attention in school jackass, school is the foundation of your future. An education will open doors that otherwise remain closed, unless of course you marry your boss' daughter :DSecond Lastly .......................... If you can't stay awake during a 30 - 40 minute class lesson then there is no way you will be able to compete in a 5+ hour tournament.Lastly ......................... please learn to spell and use correct grammar, at least take the time to fix your post to the best of your ability before sending it.Welcome to the forums :club:

First off I have experience with this exact matter. I just turned 30 and we have a home game that has people that play from 16 years old to 60. Mostly it is late 20's and early 30's though. The younger guys who play have money either from jobs or parents, sometimes they win but most of the time they leavfe with no money becasue they do not have patients and give back all of their winnings. We play $1-$2 PL dealers choice game, and on occasion we have a tourney of about the size you are talking about, the last two times a 16 year old and a 19 year old cashed. So have fun and play unless $50 is a ton of money to your right now (which it could be).---- To whoever said if you don't have a $1,000 don't play, if you are not being sarcastic you are an idiot. Its not like is looking to play 3 of these a week. I don'tthink at 17 he needs a BR to play in a tourney every couple of months.----

Another one of America's youth is hooked on poker!! Awesome! you don't need to learn, all of that stuff is for wimps! The real money in the world can be made by tp/mm since you are obviously good enough to forget about school and profit from your 5 dollar tourneys in the back of a burger king kitchen, so a 50 dollar tourney def seems Like a good idea to build your bankroll. Good bankroll management, you must have been paying real good attention during those classes that showed you how to manage your money! :club: :D

O M G please go to school and don't play poker. Poker really isn't a way to make a living and obviously from you're horrible grammar and spelling you're quite dumb so I would say save your $50 and work on graduating from high school because I can tell from your forum post that its not looking good.
