Going To The Moon Again

Recommended Posts

The contract for the next Moon project has just been awarded.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060831/ap_on_...rocket_contractAnyone else think this is a big deal? Personally I'm excited. NASA has been messed up for a long time and now it finally looks like they're on the right track. They are finally going in the direction they were designed for. I'm actually going to give Bush a lot of credit for setting NASA right. He gave a vision shortly after the Columbia disaster and said exploration would be higher priority. I thought most of it was BS. Well it looks like that vision may actually happen.

Its true, Bush is a genious when it comes to another planet or surface...he's just completely retarded when it comes to governing on Earth.

I read an article last week that said one of the days the moon will actually be classified as a planet under the definitions adopted at the same conference. Of course, "one of these days" is several billion years from now.

Really? Why? And won't the sun explode by then?

Yeah they did happen to mention that the sun expanding/exploding might happen first. The basic reason the moon would be re-classified as a planet is because it moves a small distance further away from earth every year, at least I think they said year. So, a few billion years from now the moon would have an orbit far enough away from earth to be classified as a planet.

You're wrong. The discussion that would have kept Pluto a planet and made Charon and a few others planets (it's too early/late for me to look it up, that 213 thing and the one in the asteroid belt) would have eventually led to the moon being reclassified as a planet because something like "if the center of rotation of 2 bodies rotating around each other falls outside of the body of both bodies, then both are planets," (this is the reason Charon would become a planet) but I'm fairly certain that wasn't in conjunction with the final agreement, but rather an opposing argument. Holy ****, that was the worst written sentence in history. Did my point come across?

Well I think your point was pretty simply stated in the first sentence, thanks for the tact. Perhaps it wasn't part of the final agreement I quit paying attention to the articles mid-week or so because I got rather bored with the mental masturbation of astronomers. But I know the article I read stated that the moon could eventually be classified as a planet but never mentioned that this was simply a counter argument.
