do you call in hopes of hitting a flop on the set, raise to isolate the limper, or fold because low PP's suck shorthanded?i ask because something like this happened to me:ten-handed limit, UTG calls, folds over to me on the button with 22.what's the correct play?i folded, but i want to know if my logic was right. i figured that calling is wrong since i'll only hit a set 1 in 9 times, and i can't be certain i have good enough implied odds to call since the pot's at maximum four-way and more likely three-way. i also figured that raising to isolate is wrong since i am at best a coinflip and i won't have any idea where i am when three overcards flop.i guess when i write it down, it seems more obvious that folding is correct, but i just want to make sure.also, where would you draw the line between raising to isolate, calling, and folding? i think i would fold 22-66, but raise 77+. or maybe i'd fold 22-55, call 66-88, and raise 99+. i'm not sure, i want some opinions. hell, is calling ever correct in this situation with ANY pocket pair?thanks, aseem

Ok, here is my 2 cents on this little ditty of an issue.in limit, never, in no-limit, about half of the time I will make the call with a weak pocket pair. The way I figure it, in limit, because of the betting structure, he can just check call his overcards, dissallowing you to gain any information about his hand when he calls your bet after he check a sour flop. In no-limit I would say that you can call because, if he has a pocket pair and overs come out, he will be scared and if he has overs and unders come out, he is gonna be scared. Because of the structure of no limit, you can throw out bets that overcards are not going to be able to call and thusly outplay him. If he calls a 2/3ish the pot bet, then you can be safely sure that he has a worthwile hand and you can then probably get a free river when he checks the turn to you.So, depending on the game I am playing in, and if i can really respect the UTG limp I call just about 50 percent of the time. Raising with anything from 22-66 is kind of bad, isolating the guy just puts you in a coinflip with the him. 77 is just about where I will raise will a PP, maybe 8s or 9s in really tight games.Calling is fine most times in big multiway pots (3-4+ callers?) as you get the desired implied and pot odds to make the call. Finally, when all else fails, consult Sklansky, he always seems to have the right answer to everything.Good luck and keep up the grind,JT
