Bodog 8/16 LHE (6-handed)Cobalt is BB w/ 6 6 . SB is an overaggressive monkey with a VPIP of ~98%. He raises/3-bets/caps almost every pot pre-flop. I've been 3-betting him almost every time I've decided to play a pot. He does show some post-flop restraint, but he's still prone to bluff on later streets when shown weakness. The table's playing fairly loose. Button is a donk. UTG and MP seem fairly straight-forward. I'm calling, although I think it's closer than some people might think. I think your odds of flopping a set and winning with it are probably somewhere around 8-1. Getting 18-3 effective pot odds, I think you'll need to drag somewhere around 4-5 BB's out of your opponents on average postflop when you hit the set in order to show a profit (and all this craziness suggests to me that you can).

4-5 bb's shouldn't be very hard with 4 going to the flop.

getting 5-1 I probably call with as little as suited connectors here. Pair should be fairly standard I think.

Why do you prefer this line to bet/3-betting? Think it's too likely for one of the PF-raisers to tone down the aggression?

It depends how how agressive the table is postflop. The sb checked. How often do you get raised in this spot? I typically check-raise to jam the pot, but if you are confident that you will always get raised there is nothing wrong with betting out to ensure at least 3 bets go in on the flop. Both are good to mix up your play though.

I was pretty confident that I'd get raised with that king sitting out there. One thing that I was worried about is that the LP would be the one to bet (thus making my check-raise less valuable) or something crazy would happen and it'd get checked around.Also, I screwed up the action a bit...UTG folded pre-flop. On the river, I think I'd bet/call against one opponent, but against two, I went the wussy route.
