AcesUp46 0 Posted August 14, 2006 Share Posted August 14, 2006 I just finished watching the WPT Championship event and the chip leader heading into the final table, James Van Alstyne, had a pretty bad meltdown. But given the WPT blinds structure, it's not too horrible a meltdown. Another pretty bad final table meltdown happened during the 2002 WSOP where Shipley had 30% of the chips at start of final table.Any other really bad meltdowns that I'm misssing? Ecclesbury 0 Posted August 14, 2006 Share Posted August 14, 2006 Someone may have to help me out here, unless I can find the quote myself.On one of the 2005 WSOP prelim events on ESPN the heads up match was pretty one sided, and one of the commentators talked about a recent tournament where a guy held an 87-1 chip lead going into heads up and ended up losing! I had chip lead going to FT.. first got 43k... as many of you know.. these tournies have such low Ms even at the final table.. I wasn't playing to inch up the standings; I was playing to win. It wasn't the worst meltdown that I've seen, but it's the one that I remember best. Each hand that played out to the river was usually worth $100,000 in chips or more. Link to post Share on other sites
seemorenuts 0 Posted August 15, 2006 Share Posted August 15, 2006 These big losses are quite common if you go by 6 or 7 redhotpokertour tournaments last season.Typically there are 200-300K in chips in total (4000x60 players plus exchanged white chips) and I've personally had 1K vs 264K (shared between 4-5 other players) and come back to have the big stack heads up (but I finished 2nd).Twice I've had bounced off zero (and a small stack of 4-6K; 4 players left) to win a tournament; and I've seen others do this too (2K vs 7 other players to start final table).I've lost to a guy who had 2K to my 264K also... it only takes 5 hands in a row if the antes are high enough. He hit quads and full houses, in case you are wondering...Heads up is usually 5K-10K blinds or 8K-16K blinds with ridiculously high antes. Link to post Share on other sites
