That is the funniest thing I've heard in a while. I don't really know what kind of advice can help you. It's common sense that what you said was ignorant as hell.
What did I say? I believe the offense was not saying enough or according the father the proper respect when he asked me who I was. I know it's difficult to construe the situation in its entirety from this posting. But for the mother to come down to the basement and pull the plug on the game (myself and the 5 other guys continued to play while the host was arguing/discussing something/this with his parents. I know the average age in forum is late teens to early 20's. You guys have grown up in an almost colorblind society. (not really, but hear me out) I am 40+ years old. I grew up in the 60's and 70's. Definitely had a racist upbringing. I have overcome most of the influence that upbringing has had on my life. But obviously not all of it. I will wait to decide whether to send this or not till tommorow.*L*T*psDon Giovani, you base your assesment of my weirdness on what criteria? Just asking. I know I'm weird, but I fail to see how this topic relates to your assesment of my weirdeness.

You know, you could be seriously spot on. I guess I see poker and playing the game of poker as an equalizer. I just wanted to play, they needed more players, they didn't list any age restrictions on their posting. Really, it should have been no big deal. And I believe that if I had acted appropriately it would have been no big deal.*L*T*

Stop being racist and find people your own age to play with.

Not even close. Would I go play cards at a strangers house if I was antisocial? No. I am a people person, I'll engage anyone. If one thing can be said about me, it's that I am not shy by any stretch of the imagination.*L*T*

My guess is it had nothing to do with race. It seriously had to do with your age. My parents probably would have been a little freaked out by some old guy coming over and randomly showing up in my poker game. It's probably not fair, but parents are sometimes weirdly protective. I seriously think that's probably the reason. I'm sure you brushing off his parents didn't help, but i doubt it has anything to do with race.

I agree that most parents would be uncomfortable letting their teenage children hang out with middle-aged men, even if they were just playing cards in their own home while they (the parents) were upstairs. This probably has to do with all those Dateline reports...stupid Dateline.
Karl: She was a bit -- what's the word that you can use, cuz I don't wanna offend anyone?
Steve: Was she a homeless person?
Karl: Yeah but sort of mental homeless.

If that is my fate, so be it. I don't live my life in fear of being killed because I answered a listing at homepokergames.com. I just wanted to play and I believe regardless of our age differences, poker is poker and it transcends age differences. Money is money, chips are chips, and cards are cards. That's it, nothing more.*L*T*

I meant nothing by it. I should have used different terminology. My point still remains: it was your age and not racism.

Here's a funny little fact of life. Most parents don't like their teenage children playing cards with 40-yr-old men in their basement.

I wonder why?

Unfortunate but true. I am seeing a trend here. I will not send that email. I guess I'll be asking how old the host is the next time I try to find a game. The home game I played in for 2 years dried up over the summer and since poker has "jumped the shark" it's getting harder and harder to find established games. Live and learn.*L*T*
