haven't been down yet, but my buddy normally plays 5/10 limit. there seems to be a number of regular players from brantford and blue herron who play at CNE due to the location.

My buddy is working as a pit boss there, I'll probably end up heading down at least once. I'll try to write up a report when I go.

I went there on Tuesday, heres a quick report.- I got into the poker room at around 5 pm and it was packed. - waited an hour and a half for me to get a table at 5/10- saw the most horrendous dealers ive ever seen...they couldnt calculate rake, one of them couldnt shuffle cards (no joke, it was embarrassing), they couldnt make sidepots, pushed pots to the wrong people, and were so slow we got in maybe 15-20 hands an hour- the play is generally bad at 5/10, i was betting my AK on every street of a A2TT7 board only to get beat by 77, but ill save you the many bad beat stories do yourself a favour and come here if you like money....i saw one of my friends there and he told me that the 10/20 game is tighter but still full of donkeys

The casino opens way before the actual exhibition. I think the Ex opens the 18th or so (maybe earlier?), but the casino has been open since the last week of July.

Yeah I got lazy this week and haven't gone down yet... but 1.5 hour wait at 5 pm? Damn that's ridiculous, i'll have to start showing up at 3-4 o'clock or so, try to beat the rush.

in the past, going down at 2-3pm was a longer wait. try to chat up a pit boss or dealer to figure out their schedule for opening tables.

I was down there when it opened (Monday) and the next day as well.1) The games are fairly soft - lots of loose play, similar to my experiences at Rama. But be prepared for a lot of volatility (i.e. bring a deep roll). I lost a $700 pot after the board paired on the river and my J-high flush lost to a boat. I lost 300 that day and would have been 400 winner if I had won that one pot.2) Rake: 5/10 is 5% up to $7.50; 10/20 is 5% up to $10. The 10/20 is a better deal and the players aren't much better if at all.2) Playing conditions:a) Many of the dealers are total newbies. Considering the rake we are paying, it is appaling. But with so many poker players in the Toronto area, they are guaranteed a packed house.B) The cards are Gemaco and some players have complained that it is difficult to see suits from a distance. The corners tend to stay bent on these cards and one player claimed there were creases in a number of them.c) The table felt is fairly cheap and when you slide cards over it, it tends to curl up a bit. Not very impressive.d) Tables are 11-handed, so if you have a strong hand and if you can knock people out pre-flop it's always a good idea. e) It's a libertarian regime at the CNE casino: anything goes. Dealers allow players to act out of turn over and over again.3) Tonight there might be a few more casual players than normal, but the place is closed Saturday and Sunday (this week only) because of Carribana.I'll probably play a few more times at the CNE casino, but I'll be going up to Rama whenever I can. Their 10/20 has a session fee ($5 per 30 minutes) which is a much better deal than the CNE rake. Not to mention the quality of the cards, dealers etc.

Here's the deal with poker at CNEThere are 18 tables and they are all LHE.5/10 with a max. rake of $510/20 with a max. rape (no type) of $7.5No free drinks. It's always interesting to hear stories of guys winning 20 pots in a night and still only break even...gee, I wonder why?EDIT: Maybe the dude above is right...who knows? I got my info from a non-cardroom pitboss so it may be inaccurate. But if I'm pissed off with the rake oh my post then his is just disquisting.

the guys above made a good point i forgot. because of the rake and craziness, a deep roll is necessary. it'd be dangerous for someone who regularly plays 2/4 or something to go down without a decent roll, even though the game is far more beatable than even micros online.in the last two years where i've gone down consistently, I had days each year where I won over $800, and my total profits for the month were barely over $1K, so be prepared to take some losses. no different than any other loose game, but thought I'd throw it out there.

I assure everyone that the rake schedule I quoted above is completely accurate.Smoking is completely banned in public indoor areas in Ontario. My first visit in July to Rama was a pleasant surprise, as the new law was strictly and effectively enforced. Same goes for the CNE casino - did not see one lit cigarette.Poker room is air-conditioned (and enclosed); area for table games (craps, roulette etc) has several large standing fans, but no a/c.

By any chance is one of them a short, rat-like young guy named Ron?If he's as bad at dealing as he as at playing, im sure he fits that description.

The play is pretty terrible, but the types of tables you encounter is hit or miss. Sometimes you have a lot of LAG maniac retards, sometimes a bunch of loose passives, other times a bunch of Tight Passives. Regardless, anyone with half a brain should be able to beat this game in the long run. Playing a session or 2 though, you can get stacked pretty quick as variance really runs it's course in these games. The dealers are probably also the worst around, mostly because they employ a bunch of newbies who get a crash course in dealing before the place opens. The dealing will be slow and a ton of mistakes will happen, I've lost some money from these mistakes, but not to much you can do about it.The rake is pretty high, 7.50 max for 5/10 and 10 max for 10/20. Pots are generally pretty big, so the max rake will be getting hit most hands, if it weren't for the rediculously soft games that are here, it would not be worthwhile. The 5/10 is probably just as donktastic as the 10/20. I haven't gone this yr yet, but I'll probably go a few times this yr to goof off in these games. It's fun nutbarring these games, it's actually good practice and I'm sure I can turn a profit doing it too most likely.
