"rounders" Theory

Recommended Posts

In the film rounders, I am almost positive that Ed Nortons charactor is based on you (Daniel Negreanu)... Dont get me wrong i dont mean all the mechanics and unfair play.. What im basing this on is his charisma and humour.. and his upbeat attitude, even in bad situations.. plus little things likes his bouncy walk and constant grin.Plus hes really good at cards and is the same build as you in the film... Anyone agree at all to this? and daniel do you understand where Im comming from.. as im sure uve seen the filmmuz

Forget the movie "Rounders"!!!! It was what it was, a bad movie for snot nosed kids. Wasn't based on anyone that I could see. Just someones wrong idea of what they thought a poker underworld would be like. Come on down here to South Texas, where these mexicans change the rules as the game is played. We don't have anybody named KGB, but you can get a gun shoved in your face, robbed, then pistol whipped without leaving the table. Poker like you never played it before. There's a lot of money to be made here. And if your luck isn't running at poker, you can take on old man Roberto in a finger wrestling match, you get $1000 if you can beat him and he's 64 years old. The only drawback is that he has broken several hundred peoples index fingers over the years.Sounds like someone breaking a dry tree branch when they snap. An exciting and profitable career awaits you in a poker underworld that Damon and Norton couldn't imagine.

Yea, I think if there ever was a movie made about DN, Norton could definitely play him.

:club: ...good grief man why are you playing in games like that. You know you arent living in the old days of doyle and cloutier rounding in Texas. There is just as much money to be won in vegas, or your nearest casino. seems like playing in that game is a -EV decision. GL to you though.

It's a little known fact that Daniel Negreanu has a tatoo of an ace of spades on his right forearm. It's an ace up his sleeve, what else?

Or in the comfort of your home, online.

The old days? Texas has never had casinos. And nobody stopped playing poker in Texas when Doyle Brunson left. I do play the casinos in Louisiana and Mississippi and online and we go to Vegas several times a year. But, outside of driving 350 or 400 miles to the nearest casino that has a card game, a person can always find a backroom card game going on somewhere much closer. Referring to it as the "old days" like it doesn't exist anymore would be because an individual like Brunson or Cloutier put it in their past and it doesn't exist for them anymore. But the card games in Texas are still here.

People can't make responsible replies on incorrect facts.Worm was "okay" at cards but definitely not good. That's why he cheated.

I agree that Norton would play a very convincing DN. however, the character "worm" of rounders fame isnt based on DN even slightly. The two main focal points of the film are mike's poker career and his relationship with worm. The two characters are the complete antithesis of each other. Mike is a born winner, whereas Worm is a born loser. I think that very few people can ever confuse a winner like DN with Worms self destructive personality. So to conclude, i believe that the mannerisms you associate between Worm and Daniel are misplaced.Daniel's characteristics are those of a positive, upbeat person. Worms are far more cynical, and calculated. Behind every smile is a scam.

Worm has to be a great card player. When Worm is trying to convince mike to let him play with the cops, Mike says "if you want to play it straight, you go in there and ill be back in 8 hrs"
