I need some help deciding what the best course of action is for a situation like this. I find that all too often when I get raised on the turn like this, I just shut down and c/c till river. I would have raised preflop and bet on the river.Otherwise, not bad.

I dont think raising pf is a good idea at all.I would check the flop sometimes depending on my opponents. If I bet, I wuold play it the same.

Yeah, like most moves it is opponent dependent.Aces in 6-Handed play (A9 or higher) are good hands for raising in most situations.If I feel that my opponents could fold to a raise preflop, I'm raising. I don't want to check and play out of position for the rest of the hand. Not raising preflop and being first to act in a multiway pot is basically playing in the dark. Unless I'm certain that I could constantly outplay my opponents, I'm raising and then I'm making a continuation bet on the flop if it gets that far.

I rarely raise out of the BB w/o a monster b/c I feel that most players on PP 2/4 won't fold to a raise once they've limped into a pot ... unless they're in the SB.But if I check the flop, am I c/r one bet and call? and c/f b/r?....The guy ended up having J6 for 2 pair.

Ok, you're thinking about it all wrong.You aren't raising from the BB to fold limpers in LHE. You are doing it for pure value. You raise when your equity advantage warrants it.

Hmmm...perhaps I'm understanding this wrong. I'm new to LHE so I'm not real clear on some of the concepts.I think I read in one of Sklansky's books, he said that its better to keep the pot small preflop even with good hands sometimes b/c a lot of the lower limit players will make bad calls with a bad price on their hands on the turn and river. If you build a pot up preflop and on the flop then on the streets where you can really hurt a weak player, they're playing approx. the right way b/c the pot odds warrants them to chase weak draws and call down w/ bottom pairs.That's not to say that I won't raise with good hands from position 1-4, I only do this when I'm in the blinds and I know I won't get folds preflop. Am I looking about this the wrong way?

Well no, that is very much correct as well. ATo isn't a hand I'll be raising out of the blinds either, fwiw. But I'll certainly do it with KQs, ATs-AKs, etc, especially when there are a few limpers because each additional bet that goes in preflop when we have an equity advantage makes us money.It's kind of a give and take, I suppose with respect to how you play postflop, when deciding what to do preflop.
