This is me in the last 30 seconds......there's no way the Islanders actually hired Garth Snow as their GM right? Dale's just kidding, they would never actually do that......TSN.ca, looking around *HOLY SHIT IT'S NOT A JOKE!!!*...WTF?Seriously, WTF? You don't give that job to a guy who wasn't even retired from professional hockey yesterday. You don't give that job to a guy with absolutely no front office experience whatsoever. Charles Wang has lost his fucking mind.

have they said why they fired neil smith ??? or did they just fire him because they wanted snow instead?
Wang came out with the typical politically correct explanation claiming that Smith didn't really share the same gameplan or some BS. I've heard Smith and Lafontaine were butting heads. Garth Snow :club: I can just see the other GMs around the league scratching their head and talking to themself..."so if I want to offer a proposal for an Islanders player I call Garth Snow? Really? Garth Snow the goalie? The guy with the gigantic jersey? That Garth Snow? Really? He's the Islanders GM?"

in tomorrow's news, the islanders sign alexei yashin, alexander daigle and mike foligno to long-term deals, and announce Jim Carey as their new starting goalie.

It's even funnier when you consider Garth Snow's salary of $750,000 this season and $750,000 next season counts against the cap.

yep, they'll GM will have a tough time fielding a decent team with some dead salary against the cap.seriously though, this has got to be one of the most ridiculous things that's ever happened in sports.

Right now, I think the Islanders phone is ringing off the hook..... "Yeah, Hi. Garth? Yeah, this is Lou Lamoriello. Listen, I was thinking that maybe we could do a little trading. I'll give you an autographed Mogilny jersey for every 20 goal scorer you have. What? Noooo, you don't have to call Mr. Wang. This is the best deal in the history of the Islanders"

a quote from ESPN...Wang, the guy who authorized the league's first (and only) 10-year player contract and seriously considered sending team execs to Japan to scout Sumo wrestlers with the idea of turning them into NHL goalkeepers, explained his decision by saying that he and Smith had "philosophical differences."Shows how much the guy knows about hockey.
