77 facing a limp-reraise

Recommended Posts

Home tournament, $50 entry, Top 3 get paid. $50 for 3rd, $100 for 2nd, $300 for 1st.100 Chips to start. Blinds started at 1-2. We are now playing in the second level, 2-4.9 players started. 8 players are left.Everyone is pretty much even stacked expect for the player who busted the 9th player. This is a hand that came up that my friend and I disagreed on, he feels he played his side well. Here is the hand, I would like to hear how you would have played it and why....UTG limps (85), EP (90) limps, Player folds, You get 77 (91) and raise it, make it 12 to go. Folded to UTG who pushes all in. EP folds. If you call you have 6 chips left.Call or fold and why?Thanks...

fold. At best your hand is 50/50, but really at this stage of the tournament why risk even that. You are probably facing AA or KK here so why on earth would you want to posibly lose this hand and then start going in every hand for hte next three hands with whatever crap you find. Easy fold

And thirded. Aces and/or kings are about the only thing most (sensible) players will pull the limp/reraise move with. fold and wait for another spot.

Well, if your friend "Had a read on the guy" (Or worse, thinks he had a read on him) that he was making a move with overcards, there's not a lot you're going to be able to say to him, sorry.Like I said, though, the limp/reraise move generally screams "HELLO I AM A HUGE POCKET PAIR".

To parrot what everyone else has said, fold them.Just about the worst thing you could do is call. Raising is even a better idea than that because you are going to have to play them aggressively anyway to a board that will show over cards and 7 out of 8 times no trips. So basically you will be fighting blind to win a pot that you could have never engaged in and been fine. In my experience, home tournaments usually mean lower blinds to total stack ratio, which means you have more time to pick quality starting hands. This is in your favor if you are a good player and is further reason to fold.Yes, I'm long-winded AND Irish.

limp reraise means an overpairfold like the wind.i don't like your raise much after the limpers either, but thats a matter of playing style

that was my argument, after the hand. he called, incorrectly in my opinoin and won the hand when UTG hand over cards and didn't improve. How can I convince him that his play was below average at best?
When he starts losing excessively, hopefully he'll begin to listen to you.
