Biron has signed with the Sabres for one year, but he still wants a trade to a club he can start for. This will give the Sabres some leverage when it comes to negoating with Ryan Miller over extending his contract long term.

Good move for both, Biron seems to realize that there isn't much of a market for 2nd Tier starting goalies (hell, even Legace isn't going anywhere and he qualifies as 1st Tier) and he's getting a good deal. If an opportunity comes up for Buffalo to make a move, they'll do it, but they're not going into the season with no capable backup for Miller.

Also, who is Adam? Is he a poster on here?

If SJ can't move Toskala I don't know why Biron would think he has any shot in hell.

I'm looking straight at Manny Legace and his inability to even be *offered* a contract as a UFA for evidence why Biron will be a Sabre until at least the trade deadline.

There's just no teams out there that are desperate for a starter, most everyone is set at the goalie position.

I still don't understand why Tampa didn't sign Legace (instead of trading away Modin to get Denis). It must have been a salary cap issue.

Completely off topic, but what is the deal with Taylor Pyatt? Was there simply no money left for him in Buffalo? You seem like the right person to ask.

My guess is, since they have 8 bajillion young talented forwards, they just didn't have room for all of them: under the cap, and in the lineup.

Perhaps they wanted a younger goalie.

They can contend now. It isn't like Legace is a geezer.

Denis will turn 29 in a couple of weeks while Legace turned 33 in February. Arguably, Denis is either in his prime or about to enter it while Legace is, in all liklihood, past his prime.

I kind of saw the Pyatt move coming, there just isn't any room for him on a 100% healthy Buffalo roster and he's too talented to be slumming it in Rochester. A trade was the best move for everyone, but I wish they had held out for a little more than a 4th round pick.

I did Buffalo's opening day roster the other day, and he was definitely an odd man out. Figure Pominville and Novotny to crack the roster full time this season, maybe Clarke MacArthur or Marek Zagrapan as well. Bottom line is that Taylor Pyatt just wasn't earning his spot on the team, he was getting almost a million dollars per season and not contributing as much as the rookies making half that. Add to the above the fact that he's extremely injury prone and hasn't played a full season in his entire pro career, and this was a very good jettison for the Sabres to make.

I wish him well, there's a good player in there somewhere and I hope the Canucks can make good use of him.

I do too, he has the pedigree to be another Patrik Elias. He hasn't exactly been tearing up the Q like I thought he would, but we'll see what he can do in Rochester this season.
