question about sngs

I have only been playing online a few weeks and have only played ring games. I would like to try a few SNGs but was wondering how they worked. Do you sit at a table and see who else is there while waiting for the table to fill? Or do you just ask to play one and they put you on a table? If you sit and wait I would think there could be collusion, meaning 2 or more people could work together and split the winnings. I know this could easily happen in ring games too but I play low limit with those so it's not as big a worry.Should this concern me? I am not sure. I just know I wouldn't mind knowing someone on the table folded A6 offsuit while I hold AK or 25 suited when I hold A 10 of the same suit.

I've been playing SNGs almost exclusively for a few months now and can say I've seen some possible collusion a couple times, but not enough to worry me at all. This has been mostly low limits ($5-$10) though. Anyone working together at that level is retarded to begin with, so collusion doesn't mean they'll beat any good player. Also, supposedly PokerStars watches out for collusion, or at least claim to.

Theoretically, collusion could happen in a S & G, but you probably shouldn't play online poker at all if that's what you're afraid of. The chances of collusion are way greater in cash games, and they'd make more money colluding in cash games than S & G's anyway.
