So I'm chilling by a pool on top of a mountain, and it's muggy and hot as heck. And yet, I'm still able to maintain my nerdery by having a laptop and posting on here.Surfing online (and/or playing poker) and working on a tan at the same time is the essence of cool.Nowhere to go from here aside from posting on a beach.

I think posting dead would be pretty much the ultimate. "Hey, didn't I read Cobalt's obituary in the paper a week ago?""Yeah, but his spirit was posting. From beyond.""Whatever, I'm pretty sure he's wrong about taking a bet/fold line on the turn there, ghost or not."Wang

I think more proof that I'm tied to technology is that I took a portable DVD player on a camping trip a few years ago and watched a movie in the middle of the woods. I mostly did it for the novelty.

how do you deal with the sun/glare issue? that has been a real problem for me.
This is a problem for me too. I also have the problem of june bugs and other light attracted bugs that won't stay off my screen when I try to use my laptop outdoors at night.

I have a problem with over-sized centipedes on mine. It's horrifying.

How do you get internet access when your at the beach? Yes, I'm THAT dumb with technology. Before I got my laptop (3 years ago) I had a Commodore 64. :club:

Yeah, that was certainly an issue. Mostly squinted a lot. Obviously not ideal conditions/solutions. It probably would've helped if I'd sat on the pool house's covered porch, but then I wouldn't get as much sun.

Verizon and some other mobile phone providers have plans where you can sign up for unlimited internet access. You buy a little card that plugs into your laptop and install their software. It's a bit pricey ($60-$80 per month) and it's only around three times the speed of dial-up in most areas (faster/broadband in major metro areas), but the fact that it allows me to play poker from almost anywhere makes it worth it.

I intended but neglected to post from the porch of our Las Vegas condo, so I'm making up for it by posting from my car in a Wal-Mart parking lot in north Georgia while waiting to meet my family to go buy gobs of fireworks. That still counts as outdoors, right?

I'm thoroughly disappointed.

I leave the back light on and the critters head in that direction and only rarely get on my screen. I'm sitting out on the deck right now watching my dog jumping up to eat the moths at the back door light.
