Can anyone guess what UTG has in this hand?Limit hold'em game, $.5/1 on Full Tilt Poker. I'm dealt J :club: 7 :club: on the BB. UTG (a good player) raises, everyone else folds to me - I decide, why not take a chance and call a small bet. Flop comes: 4 :) A :club: J :) . I check, UTG bets, I raise for the free card, he calls. Turn is J :D . I bet, he raises, I 3-bet, he caps, I call. River is 9 :D . I check, he bets, I raise, he 3-bets, I call. Final pot size: $17.25. One of us takes it .. :club:

I am still wondering what "I raise for a free card" means.

He's got KJ.There's no reason to post this hand when you lose it, only when someone overplays trips and you make a flush on the river to beat them.

I am still wondering what "I raise for a free card" means. He has a flush draw in position, he's raising hoping the turn gets checked and he gets to see the river card for free if he misses the flush.

he's not in position. He's in the BB and the PF raiser is utg. so it would be impossible for him to raise for a free card as his check on the turn still has the PF raiser to act behind him
Wine Notes for those that care about such pretentious things

I find that on low limit online, raising the flop on a four-straight or four flush allows a check on the turn maybe 3/4 of the time when I'm in position, and about 1/2 of the time when I'm not . I think that this is because players there have suffered bad two pairs a lot from poor players, so even top pair top kicker (like KQ on a Q :) 9 :D 5 :D board, a hand that I just played with A :) K:heart: ) may not be good on the flop. So if I have a four-flush, I always raise the flop for value and to push away really bad draws (like a gut shot 6 7 on that board, so if I hit A or K and then a 8 I won't lose). I'm actually curious as to how many people raise on the flop on draws. When I play 2/4 or above, I won't do this out of position, since players are often aware of what I'm doing and bet the turn anyway. But in position, I almost always raise the flop on a draw.

Hah, I wish. I was a moron for calling PF and playing this way - he had what I thought he had the moment he raised the river, A :) A :D .
