Ok, I usually play tournies, so last time in AC when I sat at my first NL cash table, it was somewhat new to me. It was a $1/$2 table and I had bought in for $200.

It was about 10 hands after sitting down. Table seemed loose, but no real reads on anyone. There were a few large stacks, but nothing huge. The typical raise was to about $8, and usually a few players saw a flop if only that one raise occurred.

In the CO, I have AhKh, my first playable hand. However, UTG immediately goes all in for about $70. Folded to me. UTG hadn't played a pot until that point, but can't guarantee a read based on that. Button and blinds probably have me covered, but not by a ton. They're somewhat loose, but I haven't seen them make this sort of cold call. What should I do?

Maybe this is an obvious situation in a cash game?

this must be the trop. If it is, all in Eddie does this with much less than you would think. His range is AK, AQ. 99+. Gamble Gamble to get a bigger stack.

Was actually at the Taj. That said, I didn't know any of the players, as I don't play there often enough (just visit once or twice a year).

Depends if you want to gamble or not.

I can't see you being ahead of anything that makes that
move. At best, you've got a coinflip with 2 overcards, at
worst, you're demolished by Aces or Kings, and are going
to be praying for middle hearts on the flop.

You have nothing invested in the pot. I fold.

My calling criteria preflop against an all-in bet is usually very tight, AA or KK is what I tend to limit myself to.

Big Slick (suited or not) isn't as BIG as some people like to believe.

However, in this situation, you have him covered as far as stacks go, and it wouldn't be the end of the night if you lost.

If you like to gamble, have at it.

Yeah, I guess that's what it comes down to. Just wondering of there was a clear cut play.

As it turns out, I did call, everyone else folded. Board made me a flush on the turn, and he showed down AKo ... lucky gamble as it turns out, but wanted to be more prepared next time.

I might gamble there, I think you will see this with AKs and hands like JJ and QQ often too because they can be hard to play to a scare card on the flop A or K

With no reads it's hard, but against a short stack I'll call this about 1/2 the time I think

Long-term, you likely lose if you call, I think you have to start adding AKo, AQ, AJ, AT, Axs to his range before this becomes a profitable play.

If his range is limited to AK and any pair, you lose long-term.

In this type of game I've seen UTG do this move (with a similar stack) with as low as 22 and AK...the later positions I'll see the open all-in with a little weaker (but not much).

Your pot equity is 49% (pot is $143 with blinds, your $70 call gives you a profit of $73).

Against any pair QQ to 55 you are 46-49% to win.

AA and KK you're hurting.

I think if you play this hand 1000 times against his likely range you lose.
