I read some stuff on limp-raising instead of open-raising when you would rather get action than have the blinds fold, such as when you are opening with AA on the button. Does anybody do this in 6-max, or does it mainly apply to full-ring where people play tighter and there's less blind defense?

in full-ring games, it presents a significant problem. most good players will steal with something like 30-40% of hands. if its folded to them on the button, they'll raise with 20-30% of hands.

if your opponents are paying any attention, and notice you just limping the button, they'll probably assume a monster unless you do it with some consistency. and if they see AA, you will not get the respect you want on other hands.

basically, you may see a higher profit by open-limping AA on the button from those specific hands, but will probably see a lower overall profit, since it will hurt other hands' profitability.

there are very few times where it is correct to limp/reraise. i don't think you are making any significant mistakes if you NEVER do it. it really shouldn't be a play you consider IMO.

I think you're also supposed to limp-call with middle pairs to mask the monsters. And it can be done in early position also, as long as you're opening. I agree that it's a strange play. If anybody has had success with it in short-handed games, please chime in.
