Sorry, a bit of a newbie question, i have a question about when is the correct time to check raise (in limit) and what is the thinking behind when it should be done...Is the main reason to increase fold equity, or to let your oppenent bluff at the pot, and then to raise him..Any thoughts/comments would be helpful, i am playing 0.5/1 limits on party, if that makes any difference. Thanks.

I feel like giving a classic, lengthy reply. There are two main reasons to check/raise in limit poker.1) To get more money in the pot.2) To "thin the field".So, for #1 let's think of times to C/r(check/raise). All of these have to do with early position. You have a set on an uncoordinated board. You check and let someone to your left bet and then raise to get 2 bets in the pot from multiple opponents. Pay attention to relative position when C/r'ing. Or, you have flopped a strong draw. You check and let a person from your left bet and raise, again, to trap multiple opponents for two bets because your equity is so high. For #2, you pick up a semi-strong hand in a multiway pot. You want to try and get out as many people as possible. For instance, in the BB you get 87s and call the buttons raise. The flop is A87. You should check to the button and raise him so that the rest of the players have to pay two bets cold to see the turn at the risk of being reraise by the button. So, when thinking to C/r you have to concider relative position and the likelyhood that someone will bet. If you're in early position with a flush draw and the button raised, you don't want to C/r him because you wont get all the callers you need. But had the guy on your left raised, you should C/r. Same with early position with bottom two pair. If the guy to your left raised preflop you should bet into him hoping that he raises to thin the field for you. And when there was no raise preflop you have to concider the likelyhood of someone betting from the position you desire.
