Florida Summer Classic Report - Long

Recommended Posts

Well, first off, let me say thank you to all the people who were railing the updates thread last night. It really is cool to know you have some people behind you pulling for you. And extra special thanks to bizzle, who single handedly kept this alive. If it wasn't for him, no one would've known what was going on.This was on the cruise ship boats out of Miami. The tournament started on Wednesday, and played through Saturday. They structured it to feel like a major tournament as a 5 day event. 5 hours each day, 5-6 levels per day and a one hour break. So, not too much poker, but enough to kick some players.I had won a satellite to this event way back in January when I was down for a weekend visiting some friends. So I had taken this week off work, my thinking being that I could probably go deep in the tourney, or I could at least beat down some side action as the tournament broke.Let me preface this by saying that I have not done well in MTT's online. I have FT'ed in several around the state, but I just can't seem to kick away the donks online. I still hadn't gotten my first win yet though. So Wednesday, I got to the boat a lil early (we were going to play from 7 to 12 every day, with the boat leaving at 5 to give other players a chance to play live.), and we were off at 5. I played a lil 5/10 to kill time before the tournament started, and made $100. So this tourney was a freeroll. Not exactly, but whatever helps, right?Tournament structure was as follows: 10k in starting chips, 40 minute levels, and blinds starting at 25-25. Really good structure. During the first level, made a few standard preflop raises and cont bets, and was up to like 13k. Some guy triples up when he gets a free look at 92o and the flop comes 222. A on the turn and both other players pushed with slick. So he was set. Made few more raises during the beginning of the second level, and through it, and I was up to 21k. I have not shown a hand to this point. Very small pot poker.Third level of the tournament comes, and I'm sitting across from 92o guy. I won't go into hand specifics, and you can check things out here. I called his allin on the river with AKhigh. He had a busted straight draw, no pair. So that put me at like 42k. I toyed around a bit for the rest of day, and ended day 1 with 44k in chips, which was good for 6th place.Discussed the hand with bizzle on Thursday, and he said that he wanted me to play more small pot poker, and to not get involved with big stacks that day, just try to put pressure on smaller stacks. I agreed and off I went. Thursday had no real memorable hands, but I did increase my stack to 180k. Coupla large bluffs that were well timed, and had some good hands. I did take out a short stack with the krablar (which will help me out later :-) ) Didn't do much Thursday night, chilled at the house.Friday, we were left with 39 players and had to play down to the final 9. I doubled up early when I had AA versus KK. He had me covered and spiked a king on the flop. I rivered the 2 outer. Took out 3 other people that day. One memorable hand was when I made the big full house and slowed so much that i bet the flop, villian called. Bet the turn, and teh villian called again. On the river, was a 3rd diamond. I checked, knowing he would bet the scare card, which he did. I pushed, and he auto-called, and then moaned that he hadn't seen the boat. So that put me at like 700k. Easy chip lead by this point. Ended the day with 924k. Some random luckbox chick (Varkyoni with tits), had 1.2mil, and we were down to 9.The payout on this thing was SOOOOO top heavy. 123k for first, 3100 for ninth. Much like Aruba. 4th was 9k, 3rd was 21k, 2nd was 56k, and first was 123k. There was basically no difference between 4th and 9th. LIke maybe 4k. They also ended up paying 55 spots in a 432 person tourney. So go figure. I told myself going to the boat yesterday that the only thing that mattered would be first, and no deals. I had 18 people following to watch the final table. Much to my suprise, a bunch of my old football buddies from high school showed up. Early on, I made a few standard raises with the blinds at 4k/8k/500, and got over 1mil. About 30 mins into the thing, knocked out 3rd in chips with KK on a nine high board, he had JJ. For details, check the old update thread. That put me at like 1.7mil. I had been just chillen from there for a bit, making a few small raises. I hit my first wall after that, losing 120k to a shortstack when i made a REALLY shitty call with KJs against a shorter stack going all in with 44. Board bricked, then I went card dead for like 45 minutes. Then I got AA. 2nd time in 5 days. Two red aces, and I raise preflop to 40k. Got two callers. Flop comes all diamonds. Douchebag Mc****nut check/raises me all in for his stack, and I call instantly. Turn is a diamond, and he's gone. That put me over 1.8mil, and back in a bigger lead. That was at about 9pm i think, and we took a 45 min break for food. 5 Players leftI come back, and get dealt K3 (BB), which flops trips. I check, MP1 bet out 100k, LP1 Called, and I pushed. Both folded, which is why now I always play the crab. That put me at 2.1mil. At this point I was stealing alot of blinds, and keeping pressure on everyone else. I added another 450k when we got it all in the middle preflop when I held AKs against JJ. I ran to a flush and knocked him out.4 Handed, the hand of the tournament came down. I was on the button with QQ. UTG makes it 100k, i re-pop to 350k, and SB and BB PUSH! UTG calls leaving me easy fold. UTG shows AA, SB shows TT, and BB shows KK. AA hold and he has them both covered. There was a Q on the turn so I could've won the tournament right there. Heads up we go.I got to heads up thinking I could crush this guy. He kept asking for a chop, and even you guys wanted one. I told everyone no way. This was going to be my first 6fig payday, and I was gonna be damned if i let it go to be safe. I had a 300k chiplead at 2.3-1.9.First big hand of heads up was like 10 mins into it. We got all our money in the middle and I showed AQ but was killed by AK. It deflated me. I had worked so hard to get here, only to get hit by bad luck. I started getting up when the flop was 337. Then, the miracle, a 7 hit the turn. I screamed and ran over to the rail pumping my fist. All i could remember was Fischman in 2004 against Awada screaming "YEAH! YEAH!" after hitting his. I could win this thing, I thought, it was mine.2 hands later, Krablar saves the day. K3, and I pop to 350k trying to steal the blinds and he calls. flop is K43. He bets 500k into ME! I push and he goes into the tank. I called the clock on him, and he shows AK as he folds. I tabled the K3. To quote Suited Up "PINCH PINCH MOTHER****ERS!!!". Very next hand, with Jen doing the updates, i took another 150k. Book one for FCP i told Jen to tell Bizzle, and we were on break.I could tell he wanted to end it, and first hand back he open-pushed from the button. I called with QJ, and he showed A8. I hit a jack on the flop, and the rest is history.I took the 123k in chips, left 3k for the dealers, and cashed out 50k of it. I plan on paying off my mom's car and getting a new one for me. Also, Jen deserves something nice since she just got out of the hospital. I plan on playing a lil bit bigger limits now, but not online. **** that. Lol. Thanks to FCP for all of your support. I really appreciate it. And again, go FCP.

I'll try to fill in some details that Tally forgot.

And extra special thanks to bizzle, who single handedly kept this alive. If it wasn't for him, no one would've known what was going on.
Not a problem boss, glad to do so.
Discussed the hand with bizzle on Thursday, and he said that he wanted me to play more small pot poker, and to not get involved with big stacks that day, just try to put pressure on smaller stacks. I agreed and off I went. Thursday had no real memorable hands, but I did increase my stack to 180k. Coupla large bluffs that were well timed, and had some good hands. Tally had two big hands this day. He doubled through early in the day with AA versus JJ on an AJ4 flop. Also, he tripled at the very end of the day with 88 versus TT and QQ on an 833 flop. This left him (if I remember right) with 242k in chips.
Early on, I made a few standard raises with the blinds at 4k/8k/500, and got over 1mil. About 30 mins into the thing, knocked out 3rd in chips with KK on a nine high board, he had JJ. For details, check the old update thread.
Of all the hands in the tourney, this was my favorite one that you told me about. You most likely don't get paid here without a killer read and a monster check on the turn.
Then I got AA. 2nd time in 5 days. Two red aces, and I raise preflop to 40k. Got two callers. Flop comes all diamonds. Douchebag Mc****nut check/raises me all in for his stack, and I call instantly. What, you didn't want to mention the fact that he had J10d and you sucked out like a champ?

Very nice boss, very well done. It was clear that from talking to you the last few days you were playing at a very high level, and some luck went your way to get you there. Be smart with the money and continue playing well.
