I love how DN shooting 30 to 40 over par, and possibly losing more than frst place prize money on a PGA event. I used to caddy at a hoity toity course where guys thought they were big shots for winning or losing a few grand over a round.
They should put a DN, Phil ivey, hellmuth, and doyle foursome on tv, covered by Jim Nance and Gary Mccord. Mccord: "Hellmuth with a sixty footer...and he's still away. Hellmuth with a 15 footer...and he's still away...still away...still away....and the putter is airborne!" -------------------- THE DUDE ABIDES.....MAN.

Ugly. Doyle's been hustling golf for longer that DN's been alive. Doyle's a nice guy and all I'm sure, but if DN think's he's getting the best of Doyle, he's just fooling himself. How many generatiosn of young poker stud has Doyle robbed on the course. I just don't get high stakes gamblers, betting on a game they just have no shot of winning ( unless the game is really handicapped in their favor) DN's gonna get Unger'd on the course if he keeps going out there. On the other hand, now the Phil Ivey being the Tiger Woods of poker can be a little more meaningful other than as a watered down, backhanded slur. -------------------- ![]() "We are only wise in knowing that we know nothing" -Socrates "Dust. I suspect that the games are HEAVILY handicapped so that the skill is negated and its performance based. Like if you acknowledge you are 18 strokes better than me I get a stroke per hole on you, but I can still choke, shoot a 110 to your 85 and owe you a ton of money...
I am just getting into golf and play with a few of my gambling buddies and the possibilities for action are endless. Strokes, Holes, Shots, handicapping like crazy... this could get expensive. -------------------- www.pimprock1.blogspot.com

These games are ALWAYS handicapped. If you think DN plays for big money shooting double-bogey golf without a handicap, you're nuts. If you've read his blog over the last year and a half, you'll see that the real gambling is done in the pre-game negotiations. Some of the older blogs discuss that in the context of pool, and various other gambling activities.

you're missing the point. I understand they are all giving and taking strokes.
Iv'e never heard of such high betting between players with such lousy golf games that all. Its like having a bunch of guys who take 30 seconds to run the 100 yard dash having a bet to see who's 'faster'. -------------------- THE DUDE ABIDES.....MAN.

Yeah, I know it's handicapped, Duh. It doesn't mean it's CORRECTLY handicapped. Titanic Thompson used to get strokes all the time, and he was maybe the best match play golfer of all time ( certainly if it was WAGERING matchplay). Doyle's not making these wagers unless he as the best of it, book that.

How I won a million playing poker.....and lost it playing golf...
I believe that's what he's said. The part you don't see on tv much....A gambler is a gambler much of the time. They will be on anything. Buddy of mine was at CMA's last week in Vegas and sat next to Eskimo one night booking sports bets. Eskimo started telling him about all his bets... Many (not all) gamblers just bet on anything. Eskimo, by the way, preceded to actually sing him a couple of songs because he was in the business. lol K, and if you believe that one, I got another one for you. Doyle may have been a golf fish to someone, but it ain't DN.

I guess DN is just a true gambler at heart, plain and simple.
