10 years ago, no question Gracie. Right now, Matt Hughes. He's just too tough, he can box, wrestle-grapple, he has excellent submissions. He's all around just too good right now. Submissions are easier to defend these days for these great fighters unlike the old days. I expect hughes to pound him pretty bad.
Hughes by TKO.
Hughes by TKO.

I went to college with Hughes and saw him beat the Sh#t out of a guy outside the bar he worked at, so based on that, I'll go with Hughes.

I'm looking forward to watching this on ppv this weekend -- very curious as to what the betting line will be, I expect Hughes to be a solid favorite. As soon as I see a line, I'll post it -- I'll be cheering for Royce, but Rookie2619 is probably right on this one

I'm thinking Hughes will win it but there is always the chance he gets himself caught in a submission. If anyone can do it, Gracie can. This is gonna be a great fight if Gracie can avoid getting pounded too much early on with stand up.

I found one line, Royce is +2-1 and hughes -2.6-1. I don't see a real bargain either way. I think the format is 3 5-minute rounds, I think if Hughes plays it safe you have 15 mins of boring ground-and-pound leading to a decision win for Hughes. I hope its more exciting than that

My BJJ instructor says that he "has to go with Royce", because he's a Jiu Jitsu guy. However, he admits that Hughes has improved his Jiu Jitsu,
Unfortunately, I agree with the above poster who said it will most likely be three boring rounds and a Hughes decision. Unless Hughes makes a mistake, and Royce can trap him in something I don't see Royce winning. Royce won't submit so we're looking at a decision. The way the UFC is geared, Royce won't get points for holding Hughes in his guard and surviving so the decision will go to Hughes.
If this was a no time limit fight, I could see different outcomes, but given the structure...

Royce fought Chad Rowan (Akebono) 12/31/2004 and beat him by submission (wrist-lock). Rowan is listed at 6'8" 484 lbs, thats pretty impressive. Royce fought to a draw against Hideo Tokoro (career record 13-11) 12/31/2005, he is listed at 5'7"150 lbs, thats not so impressive. Source: FCFighter.com

Hughes wins by Big John stopping the fight just over 4 minutes into the 1st. The fight went to the ground about a minute in and Hughes controlled the whole time. He got Gracie in an arm bar and I can't believe (well, I can) that Royce didn't tap out. His arm looked like it was bent back completely. Hughes wound up getting on Gracie's back and just absolutely pounded the **** out of him.
When I go to a fast food restaurant, and my order comes to $6.28, I like to give the cashier $18.71. They look at me and say 'What's this?' and I say 'I'm all in'. They usually fold.
