Recently I've been thinking of opening a small cardroom in downtown spokane washington. I've read most of the washington state gaming commisions rules and regulations and it all seems pretty cut and dry but I was wondering if anyone could give me any insight as to security, ie. camera stuff or possible books on the subject, web sites, I really don't know. I have just started this quest and am still in my neophyte stage. Any help would be appreciated, please don't send money.
how to get started?

Hey Adam, are you still considering starting a cardroom? I am in Washington and want to do the same thing! (although i'm in western washington, so we wouldn't be competing.... Hell, if you guys get your wish we may not even be in the same state soon...lol...go for it!)Anyhow, i just wanted to see how your quest is going. i was thinking about a 5 table cardroom myself featuring JUST POKER, no house-banked games like pai-gow or blackjack since you need a different license for that.i was also thinking non-smoking, 18+ (so no alcohol most likely)...Let me know if you went through with it or are still planning!! Also let me know what type of tables/chairs you are thinking about using.... thats been the toughest part for me to figure.later,Dustin07

Hey there,The best thing to get when you're thinking of starting a poker room is this book, The Complete Poker Room by Chuck Ferry. I saw it in the gamblers' general store in Las Vegas but I dont know if they sell it online in their site. All the info you need in starting a room is all there. As so far as the cameras, I would recommend one fixed camera on each table, recording it is your option, VCR tapes or Digital recorders.Marco
I was playing poker with tarot cards the other night. I got a full house, and four people died.

Card rooms are a tricky thing. u need good security and u need to bring in a good crowd. I know a guy who owns a card room and a few of my buddies play their 4 or 5 nights a week. the only reason I play their is because I know the owner and my buddies play their and they are best friends with the owner. The reason i wouldnt play their is because most of the people are gangsters and thugs, i find that with the majority of small card clubs. I dont mind playing their cause i am good friends with them but i wouldnt want to go their if i wasnt friends with them. I hit runner runner flush to beat some guy and the next thing u know he was about to beat me up, the guy finally realized that he was picking a fight with the wrong person and apollogized to me. This doesnt really have to do with the topic but it is what i have expeirenced from the card rooms i have played at. I know not all cards rooms are like that but just wanted to tell what some card rooms are like. Good Luck with the card rooms

Geez! another card room in the northwest.... I dont know, Ive seen pleanty of new casinos come and go already, especially with poker.Problem now is that some of the bigger names' (i.e. silver doller, etc.) is giving away the farm to attract players. I prefer to play a bigger game, with a big jackpot. With that said, unless you have similar or better offerings, you'll be hard-pressed to get players into your joint. Good luck with your card rooms.
