Congress is now getting involved in a McCarthy type witch hunt by Subpeopnaing a bunch of players that were namedin the Canseco book. I don't feel that the government should be getting involved in this at all, as it is none of their buisness. They claim they are doing this because some high schoolers have died from steriod related problems because of baseball players doing it. If I were one of the players on teh list I would fight this as hard as I could because there is nothing in law that says they have to appear for this type of issue. Its neo-Mccarthysim people. No offense, but I don't see this as wrong at all. Steroids are a problem among teen atheletes, and they have absolutely no place in schools. These players are being asked to testify probably about usage, suppliers and/or side effects. I think that hardly constitutes McCarthyism where people were blackballed for being possible communists. If these players didn't use steroids, then they have nothing to worry about. If they did, they will most likely be granted immunity, the baseball community won't care as usual, and legal steps may be taken against steroid producers. Can you maybe explain why it is you see this as a bad thing.

There is a proper forum for you to post this subject to.This is the 'General Poker' forum. Now if you can tie these hearings into something relating to Poker, great. If not, you shouldn't be posting it here.

well since we have a christianity debate and one on batman vs spiderman, this is just as valid. So get off your high horse Chuck. I do feel that congress has no buisness in the matter. Unless one of them owns a ballclub then where is their standing to make do this. They are doing this and singling out players based on things Jose Canseco said. I was watching Cold Pizza and the congressman when being interviewed by Dana Jacobsen had no concrete answers for why this was happenening. He said that they are calling only players that have been outspoken(McGwire, Palmeiro, Giambi, Frank Thomas, etc). She did a great bit of journalism by questioning him on this, by saing "they only spoke on the topic when they were acused." Bonds wasn't even named in the original group of players and she asked why on that. They are just on a witchhunt

There is a huge steroid problem going on now with teenagers and athletes Congress feels like it needs to do something about it. By calling these baseball player to a grand jury they feel like they are making a huge statemnt and they are making it seem like they are actuallly doing something about it. I really think questioning the players is wrong and they need to find other ways to handle this probelm.Oat meal is better than no meal :!:
