These plays are fine when you sense weakness from your opponent, which having position allows you to do. However, why not bet the turn if you think he is weak?

Agree, even if he has nothing & reraises big you have to fold your draw.

This is not intended to be mean spirited but...On the turn you say "I'm afraid he's slow playing something big," then magically on the river after he checks to you, you now assess that he's no longer slow playing. Depends completely on the texture of the flop and their range. If it's an obvious draw-heavy board where no draw hits on the turn, I'm going to bet big.If the flop is K82 rainbow and I hold AQos, I'm going to shut down if I get called on the flop.

I agree with this. A smart player will know your bluffing and call with any pair. A smart player with balls will put you in with air. There is no way your hand was good on the flop, then safe to check on the turn(not worried about draws?), but suddenly awesome with that last 6.You might actually have the best hand here with Ace high, and if you don't you run the risk of being called. I would probably check. If you had complete crap like 78s and knew you couldn't win in a showdown then you could throw out a 1/2 pot bet or something, to get draws to fold that have a higher card than you. You still might get called by king high, but atleast you give yourself better odds on the bluff.As far as betting the turn, in addition to the texture as MasterLJ said, you should ocnsider your table image. If you have routinely been giving up on the turn when you get called on the flop, then a turn bet is more believable. If you have recently shown a bluff then you might get called down. EIther way, board texture is very mportant, but considering your opponents tendencies and their image of you is key as well.Finally, your flop continuation bet is a bit weak, but people might fear you hit a monster?? I dont know. If thats the play, tehn a big turn bet would be key, as even a monster(set or something) would be afrid of a draw catching up. REally though, it depends on how you play your big hands, as poeple will notice the difference.
