Stud Hi Cash Games

I have two general questions: 1) what do you consider a good BB/hour rate for stud hi cash games? 2) do you think there is a big difference between $1/$2 and higher games?The reason that I ask is because I have been winning more than 5BB at $1/2 and I'm wondering whether I'm just on a big rush. This is over the course of 3,000+ hands now. Also, I have played some at $2/4 and found these tables much more of a rock garden (much much harder to put someone on a hand and difficult to push someone out of a pot). Any thoughts? thanks

3000 hands isn't really a lot to go by, but you seem to be off to a good start. As for a good winrate, I have no idea, as I'm probably the WORST stud hi player on Earth. Post your winrate after 10-20K hands, the numbers will be more accurate.Also what site you play at?

You're probably experiencing some pretty positive variance...or are playing some EXTREMELY bad players....5 BB at 1/2 seems pretty high...I'd say about 3 BB/hour would be pretty good against your average kinda-donkish table....so if you're playing in a game with a lot of really bad players I can see it going higher, but over the long long run I'm not sure if 5 BB/hour is reasonable, so enjoy it while it lasts certainly.

the swings in Stud can be brutal, just so you know. There are times it will bring you to tears. I have lost to 2 outers 3 hands in a row. it is the nature of the game because there is an extra betting round.

Depends on the ante and limits, but 5 BB/100 is definitely sustainable against poor players.Fell

Yes, the variance in Stud is horrific. Gman, even the best players can be beaten solely by blind luck from their opponent. This gives the illusion to other opponents that Stud is all luck, and turns them into long-term losers and you into a long-term winner. I guarantee that a good chunk of players don't even look at their opponent's upcards!But gman, it you play tight, solid Stud and have the discipline to lay down a hand when you're beat, you'll do very well in the long run.

Gman: The Nuts is absolutely correct.3 things a good stud (of any discipline, stud, stud8, razz) player needs:1: Patience2: The ability to count outs perfectly (so yeah, watching the up cards and counting what you have left to catch)3: Good steam control.Stud games look like a load of luck on the outside, and even on the inside. But if you were to ask any top notch stud-based player (Forrest, Seed), and they'd tell you basically the same three things I just told you.This is epsecially true in Razz. Razz is seen by almost EVERYONE as the luckiest poker game ever. There's just so many outs one can catch, that it looks like utter chaos until the river. This is partially true; the key method to this game is knowing when you're a favorite (even a slight one) and pushing with all you've got. That means pushing a draw to 8 high against a made 9. You have no idea how many players I've pissed off when I've capped on 5th with K8 high against their 97 high, and then made it on 6th.Believe me. It is not all luck. If you can figure out the nuances of this game, stud games are good games to profit in.Good luck.
