Not sure why you checked the flop or the turn either.

villain re-raising a river check-raise against a paired board with a str8?
i think you were going to get his stack here even if you led out.
i think you are missing value by not betting a little on the turn. AJ, other str8 draws, and flush redraws are all capable of calling a small bet on the turn. if that river doesn't complete a draw, you get nothing on this hand.

I generally just fold this pre-flop.
Oh yeah, don't ever say you did something because of a "feeling." That's one of the surefire ways to identify a donk. Don't be a donk.

Phil Ivey and Jennifer Harmon both say they play by "feel"
are they donks?

That's different. Having a "feeling" is different from playing by feel. Playing by feel is based on innately knowing the right play based on poker experience, having a "feeling" basically signifies a donk who is afraid of everyone folding when he bets his monster.

no, just liars.
they don't play by feel. they just don't feel like explaining, or likely don't completely understand themselves, the complicated reasoning that goes into every move.

I don't think they're lying. I think they're talking about an entirely different game.
Live poker is different. If you "feel" something, there's generally a reason. Your subconscious can pick up tells better than you can and you can "feel" something is wrong or out of whack.
Peace,

Not sure why you play NL at all if you don't bet that flop, but I have a feeling that you might lose slightly less than if you played blackjack.
Maybe.
good luck.

i think you were going to get his stack here even if you led out.
To defend the villian a bit: How could he not think he has the best hand here? For you to have him beat, you'd either have had to check a monster twice, gotten no play, and then even after that still checked the river. I mean, thats just a little more slowplaying than I'd expect from even most passive players.
Possibly you hold TT and just got your monster on the river, but then how could you check, when nobody has shown anything on this hand? I'm reraising all in with my AJ here I think. I just can't give any reasonable player credit for checking trips 3 times in a row, and ALSO having paired his kicker.
Also, fold pf.

essentially, that's what i was saying, that they are simply unable, or unwilling to divulge those "reasons" - whether subconscious or not.

You really should have led the flop to try to sell a weak king and possibly get a C/R in on the turn. If this were unraised, I'd say checking the flop is fine since the first person to fire into this board will usually take it down.. You really need to bet the turn tho. there's two face cards out. Somebody will usually have enough of a piece of this to call.

Would of folded preflop.
Would bet on all streets. This would result in everyone folding however and no action.
You go very lucky and paid off nicely. A blind pig finds a turnip once in a while.
