I think it's borderline whether you bet or check here. It all depends on your read of your opponent. I would guess his check represents genuine strength, because only a weak tight player would call a flop raise, and then check and fold on the turn when a blank hits. I would probably check and take a freecard. If he called your flop raise, he probably has a 7, 8, or overpair and that 4 won't scare him. If you do bet I would suggest a probe bet to get a better picture of his hand. If he has the 8 he'll probably raise, and you'll know your beat. If he has the 7 he probably calls, and maybe even lays it down because it appears as if you are begging for a call with such a small bet. He also may fold something like AK, which he may have overplayed on the flop.

If you bet big here I think you are investing too much into a pot where you are most likely a big dog. What happens when he calls and you miss on the river? Do you take one last shot? Even if you hit your straight you may be up against a boat.

unless you can deduct from past plays that you can push him off the turn with a strict bet you take the free card, cause anything you bet (which should be about $15 or more) will be basically putting him all in at this point.

you've repped a big hand, but he only has $27 in front now or so. You only bet if you think you have fold equity and can push him off. if he's shown to call down before with weak hands you take your free card and fold UI on rivers that he bets. if he checks a blank river (not a spade)I'd probably put a bet out there cause that's the only way we win.

you raised preflop to find out where he is at. Now you know so check and take the free card because in my opinion you are behind and need to catch up.

I would make it $2.50 preflop with a limper. Small Stakes is very loose so your standard raise preflop needs to be larger here. I would also make it around $10 or $11 on the flop. $8 seems a little small. It's generally better to make a pot sized bet. I think you must check behind on this turn. You raised preflop and raised him on the flop & then a 4 came. He liked his hand on the flop & a 4 certainly isn't going to change that. Take a free card. Had the turn been an ace or kind I would bet since he probably would not be thrilled to see those cards. I would consider firing another barrel if a Q or J came too depending on the opponent.
