I was one of the many who was very critical of webcast on Sunday. After reading DN's blog I do feel like I want to put an apology out there. What I am apologizing for is very specific. I apologize for not recognizing and showing apreciation for how much work goes into an event like that. It deserves recognition and after hearing how proud Daniel was of his hard work I think he deserves to feel good about that. I would hate to think anything I said might have taken away from that although I said I didn't think that would be the case when I posted on Sunday and having read the blog I'm guessing it's still not the case. The FCP "Family" does deserve a congratualtions for having pulled off this event.
Many of the criticisms are still very valid and I stand by them. Daniel is right, the intent of the webcast should have been shared and there are still a lot of unanswered questions that deserve answers. However, hard work does deserve acknowledgement. In any good evaluation it is important to focus and understand what went right as well as what went wrong. So for not providing a balanced critic, I offer my apologies for whatever that's worth.

No swear Beer, in fact, your posts had me cracking up so hard I almost cracked a rib! LOL.
I totally get where you are coming from man, and if I paid for a webcast that turned out like that I would have been pretty upset myself. As I said in the blog, the only thing I feel we did wrong was not make it clear what you guys were getting beforehand. I made the mistake of thinking that everyone understood what we were doing.
Having said that, I'll go out on a limb and say that my commentary and analysis of the hands should have come off as very valuable to those wanting to improve their game.

I just want to add that the overall project should be a big source of pride for you.
From concept to completion (actually the beginning - if you consider the purpose of mentoring) you have created a unique challenge in which the entire group participated. The commentary on the boards was just a way of "filling" the breaks, and like everything else; sometimes it's hard to be patient when the months of waiting boil down to only a few hours. As to not explaining the webcast situation, I think had everyone known beforehand that the priority was the TV production, maybe things would have been less harsh. The concept of the webcast (at least from my perspective) was that we would be "insiders" for a couple of hours and would be included in this superb concept. However, as the audio was cut and the "mystery disappearances" came and went with only vague referrals to "at a later date" some might have felt that the spirit of the concept wasn't achieved. In retrospect, the need for absolute television production value outweighs any and all bitchin & moaning
that might have been happening on the boards and in fairness, there was mention of a tv broadcast late in the event, but never any confirmation that I heard. Anway....congrats on the success of the project. We all sincerely appreciate your involvment here and make sure you don't give Brian all the goods
....so we can have a part II.

Daniel,
What a great blog entry. I'm glad you laughed at the Protege thread. I think most of us knew it wasn't the final product, so we had to humor ourselves to no end with that unqiue brand of forum mudslinging and pretend it was Canadian TV.
I think this is so fantastic, and I can't wait to see how Brian fairs in the big events.
BTW, you really went into the zone with your commentary towards the end.

First, thanks again for the Protoge contest Daniel, but I especially find this aspect of the whole thing to have been the major highlight.
Sitting there listening to your analysis as the hands unfolded, especially during the HU, was stuff I would have gladly paid you for. Almost as good as a one on one lesson.
Goot stuff!

Hey guys leave room for my apology, there are 89 pages of me whining about this event....
Daniel,
You're the man, how could I have doubted you...The webcast was great, I was just on tilt (I think I even posted that in the thread) from it starting late and that lead to a barrage of whiny posts. I'm a poker fan first and as a poker fan the show was OUTSTANDING...I definitely enjoyed the show and your commentary was great. Anyway, I'm sorry for being critical, tilting makes you do crazy things. For this webcast I give you
!
Sorry,
Danielson
P.s. Brian was very luckily to have won...Oh **** did I say luckily...lol

Dude, don't wimp out on me now man, your digs were the funniest. Seriously, every time I saw Danielson, I was like, oh no, here we go! LOL. You were sick funny, you should tilt more often, lol.
As I said, I totally get your frustration. I'm so impateient I would have been pretty annoyed too... the blog was just to let you know why it went down that way. Oh, and that FCP doesn't suck. In fact, FCP is the only place that has EVER done anything like that...

I am sorry that I told you to go buy your mom some flowers. But, I do want to remind you that Mother's Day is next Sunday. Oh, and I am a mom too so you can send me some flowers as well.

I found Daniel's commentary to be excellent. In fact, if it wasn't for him I would have dozed pretty early.
Actually I wish there was a transcript. Alot of good stuff will be edited out.

As one who sat through the whole thing on Sunday, I want to add my $.02 to this thread.
Daniel,
Today's blog DID make me feel a little bad, but only a little -- because I believe you understand that most of us were just venting our frustration. But I am sorry if you are/were a little disappointed in us for not being more supportive. I truly hope the broadcast is as great as you want it to be. I just wish we could see it in the U.S.
But just as important, I'm a little sad that we weren't able to share in your pleasure at the event. After all the hype and build up, the frustrations of watching it took away a lot of the enjoyment for us (though the commentary was great.)
I think most of us understood that the webcast was an "add on" ... and that the TV production ranked above our pleasure in your priorities. But I hope you will consider the suggestion I made in a different thread to do things a little differently in the future. It would be pretty simple to assign someone to keep an eye on the forum during big events and make an ocassional post updating us on key developments and answering a few questions. We felt like we were being ignored and marginalized from the FCP community.
And why couldn't someone have taken a few moments to say something to us at the end? It just ended abruptly with no "good night" ... no comments from the winner ... no "cuddling," if you know what I mean. Yep ... That's what it was like ... bad sex with no cuddling at the end.
But then, sometimes bad sex can be better than no sex at all.
Thanks for the date. Maybe we can do it again sometime.
llou

I'd say that Daniel's commentary was invaluable. I would love a cut of the webcast (I guess with the breaks removed
If so, I would definitely love a copy to go over that commentary again. I would have to think that the commentary for the televised event will be dubbed over and most obviously will be only a small subset for the TV show.
DN, any confirmation if something like this will be available for download?

Hey Daniel and all other FCP's who participated in making the protége-final into a great show! For me I sat all night (I was in Denmark, Europe) cheering for Mathias and watched the show. A lot of things could have been better as can any show on earth - nothing can be perfect, when you're broadcasting to many thousand people, but the main thing is, that even 5 o'clock in the night I was still enjoying the show. You guys did an awesome job and just the fact, that you're pulling such a show for your fans to participate in and watch, is simply outstanding.
So thanks a million guys and be aware that stuff like this makes us fans dedicated for life!!!
Morten.
