well, i got home from work today to find that my bank account had been sent $800 negative from someone who hacked my neteller account. they somehow figured out or stole my 9 digit randomized password. it took about 5 mins to instacash $800 into neteller and have it deposited into a european poker site that i have never heard of. my account is frozen now and neteller said that they are investigating it. i've never personally heard of a neteller account getting hacked and i've always been happy with them. just wanted to put this up as a reminder that it can happen and be careful with your $^%&!!gl all, smrphf

I've seen this happen before, and it was someone having their email password stolen/hacked, rather than Neteller information. Do you by any chance have emails from Neteller detailing your account information stored in your Inbox?Either way, tough break - hope it ends well. They can break into my Neteller account - I have the ultimate security, a $0 balance :club:

If your read the OP you'll notice he said they made an instacash deposit into his Neteller account. So even if you don't have any money in your neteller account they can still make a deposit into your account from your bank account then deposit from there into some random poker site and you too have been screwed!

yea, i don't think i have any account stuff in my email, but if they can get into there i'm sure there's ways to get id's and stuff as well. i'm gonna have to be sure that i don't leave a trace of anything on my computer from now on as to not have it happen again.

What would possess you to write that?
Meh, in my group of friends (black guys included) we say "nig" and "nigga" half jokingly. They aren't offended. They acknowledge the ridiculousness of black people using the world liberally and everyone else not allowed to.Not saying that he is saying it in the same manner, but the all the dark clouds around this word need to be cleared up.

Are there any websites where you can get a more secure email address that is harder to hack into, maybe pay for one? Also how do you think they would find out your neteller information? This makes me wonder what people with LOTS of money in their accounts do. IE a couple hundred thousand dollars.

It's just like anything else, you have to be carefull. A couple months ago someone got my credit card number and charged up 2000 Euro in Frence drug stores on my tab. It's not something wrong with Visa it just happens some times.

Most email accounts are plenty secure, it's the users that are not secure. You can search on "hacking passwords" or some such thing for list of passwords to NOT use. Very quickly:Don't use repetitive passwords (eg. AABBCCDD, or 1234567)Don't use "keyboard" passwords (eg, QWERTY, or ASDFGHJ)Don't use a variation of your login (eg. login = MrSmith, password = htimSrM)Don't just add a character or two to your name (eg. xxmrsmithxx)Don't just add a character or two to anything (eg.xxBurgerKingxx)Don't use any family member names.Don't use any words found in the dictionary or atlas.Don't use backwards versions of words found in the dictionary or atlas.Don't write it down ever.Don't tell anyone ever.DO: Use a random string generator. (Hard to remember, but the safest). Use the initials of a personal phrase, such as "I have 7 illegitmate children! " gives a password of Ih7ic! . Or you could do something like "My kids are Ethan, Age 1, and Vanessa, Age 3" to give MkaEa1,aV,a3 If you use this, don't use a common phrase such as "We have nothing to fear but fear itself." or "Space, the final frontier". Make it *personal*, but not guessable (just using your family's initials is questionable). Use a combination of letters, upper case, lower case, numbers and punctuation. Longer passwords are better. A password like Am5%3n#t4t is virtually unbreakable. Another possibility is to take the first three letters of three random words. Use a book, pick a page, and point. Then if your words are "The", "energy" and "extrapolate", add some odd characters, and you get "The-ene.ext45!"This all assumes an email or other account was hacked in the OPs case. If someone hacked into netteller, they are a fricking genius and probably deserve your money. It's possible they loaded a password stealing program on the OPs computer, capturing his typing for a few days. If you keep your virus protection up to date, this is unlikely.OK, that's probably more than anyone needed to know, but I'm always surprised by how many people don't follow these rules, and with all the money floating around the online poker world, you gotta be careful. Is your password at your poker site safe? Did you obey these rules?

i did not use a combination with uppercases and punctuation, but it was 9 digits/letters and random, there is no way u could guess it. my antivirus automatically updates and runs every morning. i did have my secure id in my email unfortunately, which i'm guessing has been my mistake causing my whole ordeal. I use yahoo and i shoulda been more careful by not leaving anything sensitive in my account. i still don't know for sure how they did it. neteller said that they are going to contact the site my money went to but i'm sure it's gone without a trace.

Sometimes there are just mysteries like that. The guidelines I gave will help 99.999%, you could just be that last 0.0001. Good luck getting your money back. I had credit card information stolen once, but my guess is they did it the old-fashioned way by going through the trash. Neteller never sent me anything printed, though, so that seems unlikely in your case.

well, i will say this, neteller is still the bomb in my book. they have been great in settling this situation with me. i'm off to the bank to get that side taken care of tomorrow. oh yea, just to reiterate my original point so this doesn't or at least decreases the chance this could happen to you. Be careful with your stuff!!!later and gl all, smrphf
