I dont understand this fold from Doyle Brunson, He doesnt need any money from tourneys he just plays for prestige, so I think it aint a 'moving up into the pay scale' fold.Brunson has JJJJ Liu has AKo5 players, blinds 40k - 80k antes 10kUTG:Antonius 5,620,000Co:Pedersen 2,060,000button:JJ Liu 4,475,000SB:Doyle 2,785,000BB:Dicken 1,715,000UTG: foldsMP: foldsButton: raises 250,000 totalSB: Re-raises to 1,000,000 totalBB: foldsButton: all-in SB: FoldsIt will cost Doyle about 1,700,000 in a pot of 3,800,0002.2 - 1 pot oddsEven if u put JJ Liu on AA, KK, QQ or AK he would have 36% equity according to pokerstove, so why not gamble now? With this hand in the back of my mind I am totally confused that he does call an all-in from Antonius with just 33 (!) and almost no pot odds.

Brunson put in a big re-raise and she played back at him.Brunson knows she wouldn't do that without a big pair or AK, so he is either a big dog, or at best has a coin flip. Yeah, she COULD just be making a play but he'll be pot commited if he goes any further.Regardless of the pot odds, if he looses the hand he's done, and there isn't much glory in busting out fifth.I think he figures with his skill he will still have enough chips left to play his way back into contention... which he did.I was suprised at the way he finally busted out after reaching over 8 million chips. I think he could have looked at another few hands before getting as aggresive as he did, but then I'm somewhat less experienced than Mr Brunson.

1. IMO he already was commited by putting in more than 1/3 of his chip stack2. The possibility of Busting out shouldn't bother him since he wants to win and not get blinded down to place 3 or 43. Back in contention after he misplayed a T8o twice, first one against Dicken second against antonius 99 vs T8

His thinking wasn't "gee, I guess I've put in 1/3 my stack I might as well shove in the rest."It was more like, "I could be a dog here, but if I fold I will still have about ten times the blinds and antes left in my stack, which is a playable stack."I don't remember exactly how those T8 hands went down, but what you said in your second point probably went into his thinking on those. Sometimes in tourneys, especially late when the blinds are big you just have to go with a hand and hope you catch something.jmho

His thinking was probably a bit off in this hand. The range Liu could be doing this with might look like this: AA-JJ, AK. With 36% equity this should be a call for Doyle since the pot gives him a bit of an overlay. Also, those extra chips that he could win are worth alot later in the tournament. I think Doyle was convinced he was up against a bigger PP.

A better question is why the hell did Liu where that shirt? Everytime they zoomed in on her i swear i could see some nipple.Asian Nipples = +EVIt's like a move ... either Cindy Violette or Jennifer Harman did in a wsop limit tourney. They folded QQ preflop because i'm sure they thought FOR SURE they were up against AA, KK or AK. If they thought AK, i don't see why you would fold, but regardless, they folded.Brunson's got 10 bracelets, so I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doin, eh?-beaverstyle

I suppose he did convince himself that he was up against a bigger pocket pair, but I agree that it was confusing that he brought himself to fold J-J here but would make that call with 3-3 later on.

You also fail to factor in the way Doyle plays anyway. He does gamble more in the later stages of a final table than he does in the earlier stages. Yeah, he makes moves all the time, but he will play more conservative to start.

Doyle raise for information, and got the information he wanted. Also, I think she must have been nut peddling earlier in the tournament, based on the hand played by phil Laak. He laid down a monster becuase he was convinced she must have flopped a set. That laydown prior to Doyle's laydown seemed to me to mean that the respected her raises a lot.Against Patrick later, it was obvious that Doyle figured PA was trying to run over the table and that he needed make a stand. You have 2 differnet villians, and differnet M's. On these telecasts they only show some of the hands. But it seemed to me that Doyle was making decisions based on reads and trends. You can not compare his laydown agaisnt one opponent with a call against another. Different stages of the tournament, different opponenets, different range of hands you are up against. And yeah, I think there was some Asian nips on display!

I agree with you, but you must admit that with 33 against any range you take by far the worst of it.Its a big laydown by doyle and he must been convinced that she had AA, KK or QQ.If he wanted to raise for information, 750,000 to go would be sufficient I guess.I dont think its a bad thing if u can make laydowns like this, but I thought Doyle always likes to gamble in final tables so it surprised me.

If you want to call him out for calling all in with 33, That is a more interesting question. I think it was a questionable call at best. But If Patrick is raising every pot, eventually you need to pick a hand and gamble. 33 is not a great choice, but it might be the best one he had seen in a while.

You say how can I make that call. How can you make that bet? We're playing Poker, not solitare."We all now that when u make a bet you have something like fold equity, plus the Ace deuce of PA figured to be best at the moment. So if Doyle was going to make a stand why not go all-in himself?*By the way, I am a fan of Doyle, not trying to make him look stupid or something, if I was doing that I would look stupid cause he is definetly one of the best players there is.
