if he's gonna bet again, there's not really a point to bet/folding unless you're trying to block him... which I can't imagine you are here. Wondering what your thoughts as to why to bet/fold.
It is indeed to block him.I don't think it makes sense to call a bet of 50 on the river. However, if I throw 20-30 out there, he will almost certainly raise with a better hand and most likely flat call or fold with a worse hand. The only profitable side of checking here is when he bets out again with a worse hand and I flat call.

I think you have plenty of showdown value to call a pot sized river bet. I don't really understand your thoughts here. Why did you call the turn if you felt you were drawing to 3 outs less than 35% of the time?

I called the turn thinking I could steal on the river given the right card.I felt there were a lot of rivers that could warrant a 40 dollar bluff. Now I'm questioning if I'm good with my (not top) two pair and want to get to showdown for as cheap as possible.A check-call may be correct.

I don't think there are a whole lot of scare cards to represent. (if you think villian has a stronger hand than 98, then this board is about as safe as he can hope for.) Not many people give credit to backdoor flushes. Besides that, you probably got the scariest card you could, which isn't all that scarey.I don't know. give your intentions for the river at the turn, I think you may have just confused yourself in this hand.

Without some reads it's pretty hard to say, I played the other night and the hand went like this.Course not the same level as you, but from what I read from Cobalts posts these happen at all levels I think6 Max, $25 NLMe 30 (button)(AB) aggro boy 25 (BB)fold fold fold to me on the button, I call cause I know he will raise out of the BB, SB folds, pretty sure he saw a play coming and didn't want to get in there, without the goodsBB raise to $1 and I callFlop 228 rainbowBB Bets $2 I callTurn Q (slightly worried)BB bets $5 I callRiver is a 4, no flushesBB bets all in, I call and he shows A9s and I take it downPoint being, for a good player, he has to wonder why you keep calling him? So I am sure unless he has a monster he is wondering what you are doing and is getting less and less comfortable betting into you.

yeah the river threw me off.Thing is let's say his range falls around A9, then he's probably checking behind. If his range is a small set or 10-9 (a very small range) he's raising if I bet.Given that range2 is so small, wouldn't betting be the profitable move?9 with good kicker will check behind, but call a decent bet.

Ok I think i understand a little better now. What this comes down to is you never really knew where you were. Which I think makes the turn call and subsequently plan kinda lousy. However, if you think he checks here a lot a bet is pretty good. Then it's a value bet, not a blocking bet imo.

Right, but if he comes over the top, I am beat.Yeah, this hand did not work out...the plan was indeed lousy and I probably should've just let go on the turn.
