Phil Ivey And Craps

Recommended Posts

i was recently in vegas for a month and saw that Phil seemed to be shooting dice a lot more than playing poker. ive also heard top players expressing concern for his "leak". ive heard rumors, and witnessed him playing for very high stakes but dont know how much he really plays and although he is obviously making a ton of money, if he is endagering himself. does anyone know anything solid about this.matty

He's working on this as we speak....I had a confidential talk with him eariler in the week, and I told him whenever he has a "solid" "crap", DONT try to take a "leak".....Sometimes it can squirt between the seat and bowl and make quite a mess...I suggested he place a non-slip mat in front of the toilet so not to "endanger" himself by slipping on the pee...

ok here we go, let me try to make heads or tails of this1. How would you know? Were you following him? Did you track him for hours at a time like a Lion and an Antelope? Seriously. This is disturbing statement number 12. How many top players are you conversing with? You and Barry hanging out during Passover were ya? Have Easter dinner with Danny and his ma? disturbing statement 23. High stakes? To you or to him? How do you know his fiscal situation?4. endangering himself? Who are you, his mother? Leave the rumors to US Weekly. Find something better to do with your time. What did we learn? You are too worried about somebody else's gambling habits.Carry on.

learn, it's the most fun in a casino.
It does look like a lot of fun, but I walk up to the table and it is completely mystifying, befuddling, and I don't want to look like an idiot and put my bet on the table in someone's drink coaster haha.So yeah, I need to figure it out. Throwing dice looks like fun.Monty

A quick and dirty lesson in Craps.Let say you come into the MGM Grand thinking you want to play a little craps. You walk up to the table with a little red card (That's the $5 tables and usually the cheapest you'll find on the strip). Place $5 on the passline. That's the first little line on the outside. Don't be intimidated by all those numbers and sqaures and pictures of dice...that'll come later. The Stickman will shove to you 5 different dice. Take whichever two you think are the luckiest. He'll collect the other three and here we go! Time to throw some dice! Now, you're on a "comeout Roll" This is where a 7 or 11 pay off, and 2, 3, 12 are what's known as craps. Let's say on your first roll, you roll a 7. YAY! You just doubled your passline bet. The Stickman pushes the dice back to you and you get to roll again. You roll a 2...snakeeyes...bummer...that $5 you just made is going back to the casino. No fear though right? Put another red chip on the passline and throw the dice again. This time you rolled a 6.The two dealers on opposet ends of the table will take a little disc that has "ON" on the white side, and a black side that says "OFF" on the number that says 6. This is now known as your point! The object now is to roll a 6 before you roll a 7. None of the other numbers matter. All you need to worry about rolling is a 6. If you roll the 6 before you roll the 7, you'll double your passline bet and get 3:2 on any bet you place behind the passline bet. (That's known as your odds bet.)It takes a little getting used to, but that's basic craps. There's a lot of strategy in playing on which bets you can do, but that's my advanced class that I teach later on at 7pm

good stuff ricker, but you missed the most fun about craps. When someone rolls a 5, I love sticking money on 6 and 8. Then, as long as they don't roll a 7, you get paid everytime someone throws a 6 or 8. I play Pass, behind the Pass, 6 and 8. the most fun is screaming at the shooter.COME ON SHOOTER, THROW ME A 6go with someone that knows how to play, you'll pick up the basics quick. I've played probably 7 times, and I'm still a little intimidated. You wonder how they are gonna know it's your money and where you want it, but they do if they are good. Its good times, unless you get all that money out there when the point is made, then he rolls a 7 right away. Twice in a row like that.On the boat here, minimun is 10 to pass 12 for the numbers.

I know, I didn't want to overwhelm him on the strat on Craps...There are so many crazy bets you can make on that game it's insane. ButI also LOVE getting drunk and screaming at the shooter as well. I also am a really hot and cold dice shooter. Either I'll roll 40 numbers in a row, or seven out after everyone places their bets. Meaning, I'll get a point and everyone will do their buys and hard ways and I'll roll a seven on the next roll.

i dont know why you are acting like a ******. if i knew the answers to these questions i wouldnt have asked so dont assume i think one way or the other. i didnt follow him or make any effort to see how he was doing. i did discuss it with 2 players regarded as top players but im not going to name drop. it was also discussed by a few players on circuit radio show. by high stakes i mean to pretty mmuch anyone. when i see someone take over a million dollars out of his box and play craps with it i consider it high stakes unless he is worth some ungodly amount that just isnt possible. i was asking a question that many people may be interested in since he is now, like it or not a public figure. i make no accusations and have no idea how much he plays other than what i witnessed in an extremely small sample size. i stated that i didnt know and asked if anyone did. since you didnt you should not have replied.

Are you insane????????????????? I didn't even reply to your initial thread. If you really looked at my reply genius I was teaching Monty how to play craps. Go back to your hole. I don't care if Ivey's losing a lot of money playing craps or playing for high stakes. It's none of my business! It's really none of yours when you think about it. Shut your mouth and think every once in awhile. Take tylenol for any headaches...midol for any cramps.Dumbshit

hey Inspector Gadget, that was me that ripped your thread to shreds. I now doubt everything you wrote based on your astute observational skills.Good luck

Funny craps storyBuddy and I are in Biloxi and getting pwnd.We are mostly 6 and 8 and pass line/odds like Ron.He decides to start playing the don't pass line. Same shooter:Bets $25 on the don't pass. Loses.Bets $50 on the dont's pass. Loses.Bets $100 on the don't pass. Loses.Bets $200 on the dont's pass. Loses.Bets $400 on the don't pass. Loses.Bets $800 on the don's pass. Loses.Shooter made 6 points the whole time my buddy is on the dark side.Gives up and whole table is clapping as he leaves. I am laughing my arse off as I was just watching. He loses $1500. Moral is the double down method does't always work.

Oh my god...that story had me rolling....if I was at that table, I'd want him to stay and hit more points. I'd have the entire board covered at that point

I was actually at the Borgata Winter Poker Open (spoke to Daniel there - he's as friendly in person as he comes off on TV). Anyway, my friend is a huge Ivey fan and we were scanning the whole room looking for him, but no luck so we went to get something to eat. When we got back an hour later he was sitting at a table and we were kind of talking about him out loud. The guy behind us overheard and said that Ivey was up all night playing craps and he won over $1 million, so he bought in to the tourney right after and went up to his room to take a nap. Didn't seem to affect his stack too much cause he looked to be chip leader at his table when we spotted him. Ivey is amazing but I hope this craps habit doesn't keep him off the poker tables and TV!

If this was only true...I'd be playing craps all the time....as craps would be +EV....the odds pay 6:5 on a 6 or 8. Game is still pretty fun though...but I am intimidated as hell to play it, and I play pass line only.

First Id like to congratulate Ron on such a good flame :club: Next I have to point out that the free odds pay 6-5 on the 6 and 8... 3-2 on the 9 and 5 and 2-1 on the 4 and 10....Sorry but as a baby my first changing table had the craps layout on it...(I still poop myself at the dice table once in a while come to think of it)Odds bet is the only one on the table without a house vig... BUT over the long run, you wont win at it either... nor will the house, because they pay the true odds of a number rolling before a seven (unless you win once and never go back)

You're absolutely 100% right. I totally screwed up the odds sheet I had up there. My Bad Cap...
