A Plo8 1k River Decision

Table selection is important, if I don't feel like I have an edge then I simply will not join the party.I finally got a seat on the immediate left of one of the WSOP ME winners who had about 2k (I had mentioned in one of my posts that while he is a great NLH player, but he was not and still isn't so great at plo8), and I wanted to take advantage of that. The following hand was 7-handed. Nice play on the first hand.2nd hand tough decision. It seems ripe for a steal from betting the pot, but you don't know if you're getting called along b/c there's a set or b/c there's a straight ( I think set...) I would be very unconfident that the river didn't boat someone, with all the connector cards out there. I think I make a value bet big enough that a straight probably can't call, but small enough that it doesn't hurt too bad if you get quartered. Also, I'm raising this pf.

Would you have raised on the turn? Why?
Yes. I have lock low, nut flush draw and a (small) pair. I prefer my hand much more against 1 opponent than 2. Player has come out betting on a str8 board so what does he need to have you in bad shape:A247, A2xy x,y[6,8,9,}Anything else and you are very comfortable - you WANT to charge the naked str8s and sets the max to draw, otherwise you are not capitalizing on your freerolls. BUT you have to get rid of the other lows in the process. It would be very hard for the third player to call pot, re-pot ahead of him with this board - but even if he does, you don't mind too much.Let's say you all call and the river is something boring. First seat bets out 164 into you, what do you do now? If you call then the chances are the third player does to with a low. If you are going to fold here then you shoudl fold the turn - and you shouldn't be playing ;-)As it is, with the river that comes, I pot it representing the boat, hoping to get the str8 to fold and that my 2 pair hold up for 3/4

I would pot the river to represent the boat. My opinion is that your lock low is probably good for half the pot, and your opponents may have been trolling with a straight plus Ace, 3. I would put them on a low draw and a made straight. If either one of your opponents had a straight plus a 1, 2 then you would have gotten a pot sized bet from UTG+1 on the turn, or a pot sized or large sized lead out bet from BB on the river. I think you're giving too much credit to your opponents here. UTG+1 is the only player with a chance to quarter you here. If BB really checked the lock low on the river, then I'd take my hat off to him for his play. But I highly doubt that's the case. Pot the river and represent the boat. The ONLY scenario I see where you get quartered is if UTG+1 also has the nut low and trip 9's. The key to this hand is the betting pattern. You failed to repot the turn, but you can regain the position you lost on the river by potting when the full house card hits. Just my .02

I considered raising the turn but UTG+1 was a call station and short-stacked, he probably won't be hesitated to call with A2. If he didn't have A2 it's ok to keep him in the pot as well. At that time I didn't think I had any fold equity raising two call stations. I worried too much about getting 1/4'd if UTG+1 had A2 and if he would be calling the raise. However I did feel like I missed a value bet on the river regardless of the situations. Here's the results.Seat 3: jkosfcp showed [3h 2c 6h Ah] and won ($75.50) with HI: two pair, Nines and Sixes; LO: 8,6,5,2,ASeat 4: UTG+1 mucked [2d 4d 3c 7d]Seat 9: BB (big blind) showed [Ks 4h 8s 7h] and won ($75.50) with HI: a straight, Five to Nine; LO: 8,7,6,5,4Yes I gave too much credit to UTG+1. Anyway I had much better ideas about both players after the hand. Now if I had raised the turn and knocked UTG+1 out. By the river the board paired what's my fold equity representing the boat?.......Let's start all over from the turn. (Sorry thse are the questions I am asking myself and trying to answer it by writing them down)1. When I am drawing to the flush high with a CF protected low on the turn, do I want to keep more players in or out? If I keep them in and the flush got there, can I extract more value (do I have the implied odds)?2. If I did knock out UTG+1 on the turn and a blank came, then it would be a split pot between me and BB, and I would had almost zero profit in this hand. In this hand at least I won ~$19.3. But $19 is nothing, on the river if a flush came or a scare card came I could had won much more because when I raised the turn, the pot was built and BB had to wonder if I had a bigger str8 or set or something. So it's either running the risk of splitting a close-to-zero-profitted pot but winning a bigger pot (by raising the turn), or running the risk of either getting 1/4'd lightly or winning a small pot by winning the low (by flat-calling the turn).4. The problem for me on the turn was I wasn't sure UTG+1 had A2 and would had called the raise even knowing he may be 1/4'd. There are just many players wouldn't lay down a made low hand (some idiots just wouldn't even a 2nd nut low).5. From 3 if it's a HU (me vs BB) then no question I would had raised the turn. In a 3-way pot...6. Ha finally I just got this and this one should be good. Since UTG+1 had about $460 left. Even if I got 1/4'd it wouldn't had hurt me much. Say 3 of us put $460 and I got 1/4'd, I would be losing $115 at worst. But by raising the turn I had much better fold equity and pot equity on the turn and river and the pot is much bigger.I checked the river because I took too much time to think and at last I realized the longer I took the more likely BB would be calling, the pot was small any way.

I would raise the turn for several reasons. First, if a flush card hits, then no one will probably call on the end. Second, you will often be freerolling made high only hands, and so you want the extra money going in with a nice edge. Third, you may even get a naked set, two pair, or top pair to fold and promote your high hand and allow you to do the quartering even if you miss (if I had a set on that board from UTG+1's position I am probably folding to a bet and a pot raise). Fourth, you may fold a naked nut low and save yourself from a quartering (I could fold a naked nut low to a bet and a pot raise). Fifth, even when you do end up against the monster hands (nut low + straight or set), you will still have outs. Sixth, image if the hand is shown. It shows that you aren't sitting around waiting on nut nut made hands. I think you have to bet strong draws aggressively to build big pots and maximize opponents mistakes. If you wait to make nut nut hands you will often get a small pot on the river.

How do y'all like those plays now?The first hand I just sit down at lo8, the 2nd was plo8, the 3rd was a plo8 trny. For the first hand I would probablly play it the same. However, if another person or 2 were left to act behind me I'd say check-fold the flop.
