Raise Or Smooth Call?

Recommended Posts

This is a hand from a shorthanded and short stacked NL home game. There hadnt been a lot of action til this hand... about 4 hands into the game.4 players, .50/1 blindsSB ($22) is solidBB ($20) I dont really have a read onUTG ($18) I dont really have a read on either Hero ($22) is on the button with 7 :club: 10 :D Action:UTG limpsHero limpsSB foldsBB raises to $3UTG callsHero callsPot ($9.50) Flop: J :D 8 :) 9 :D BB leads for $4SB calls $4Obviously I am happy to have flopped a straight and a gutshot straight flush draw to go with it... but I dont really have any reads on these players and I would like to extract as many chips as possible. They seemed pretty loose up until this point, and have backed up that read with their play on this flop. Raise or Smooth Call?

Raise. In almost all cases the BB has connected with this flop and will 3-bet a ton and when he does you just call that and pop it up on the turn or if 3-bet can even cap and hope he takes it as a free card play and bets into you again on the turn. On draw heavy boards like this almost always better off playing it fast as many players will just take it as you playing your draw aggressively

I would just call and try to get it all in on the turn. Normally I would raise it to $15 or so and hope that someone plays back at me because the betting has been kind of small and there are a lot of turn cards that can kill my action, but with stacks these short this is less of a concern and I don't want to scare anyone awayPS- I believe that these posts should go on the NLHE section even though the description for the SH forum says to put them here
