aadams_22 3
Hit Streak 38 games and counting. Rollins grounded a 1-0 pitch from Mark Mulder down the left-field line for a double.
timwakefield 69
Yeah he's nasty. I totally forgot that he had a streak. Did you see his hit on opening night? Hitless in his last at bat, 3-0 count, basehit.

mrdannyg 274
its a great accomplishment of course, but i don't think it really counts if he gets into the 50s. its definitely not the same as going 56 straight, and i hope he doesn't get there so there is no argument.getting to 45-50 though would be cool and its definitely a great thing he's got going
aadams_22 3
I wasn't implying that he was going to get there...hell no one has hit in more than 44 (Pete Rose) since Dimaggio did it. I however would like to see how far he can take it.

Not necessarily saying that argument wins..but I think it does have some merit. I mean..it's still 56 major league games and it seems a little wierd to punish Rollins for starting his streak in late August instead of another time of year. Who knows though..he won't get there anyways.Prediction: If Rollins actually begins to approach the record..say he gets to 50 games..and then there is some serious debate over whether the record is the "same" or not...I GUARANTEE that Jason "Racecard" Whitlock will write a column and say that the only reason people are arguing that it isn't the same is because Rollins is black. Mark it.

Who knows though..he won't get there anyways.I like this argument better. 56 games is 56 games regardless of when they happen. It'll be harder for Rollins anyway once you take into account that the media attention on him will be far more intense than on Joe D. back in the day. And screw that Yankee ******* anyway. Ted Williams was the MVP that year. Hell, he had a higher average than Joe during the streak. It'd be great for baseball if he keeps it going for a while, whether or not he makes it. timwakefield 69
There might be debate if he gets that high (which he almost certainly won't), but if he broke the record he wouldn't need an asterik. Definitely counts.
Athos 0
Everything I've seen & heard has MLB viewing them as two distinct, separate records:* Single season consecutive game hitting streak* Consecutive game hitting streak.
