tournament stategy

Recommended Posts

HI Daniel!Any advice on stategy when the starting chips are $1,500 and the blinds go up every 50 min.? Kinda like WPO blinds start at 25/25no limit?Limit? It seems like if you dont catch in each and every pot you enter then you cant last but a few hours in NL, maybe 4-5 hours in limit...Should you not wait for premium starting hand in the beginning of a nl tourny with only 1500 starting chips?? ....Thanks for any help with this!Matt

Don't pay attention to him.First, welcome to the forum.Second, switching gears is a big deal in tournaments. You really have to know when to play tight and when to play loose. And of coarse, you try like hell not to make any mistakes....but we all know how that gos.I like to play tight early, then loose when the blinds get big enough to scare people, then tight again when everyone is short stacked and moving all in, then loose again right after. Your original question is kind of vague, though. Care to elaborate? What exactly is your problem...?By the way, have you read sklansky's book on tournaments?

Sorry i didnt get into detail.......I seem to have a prob when i play NL tournaments that have 1000- 1500 starting chips and the blinds increase every 45-hour....I play very tight the first couple hours and then the blinds eat me up or im the short stack at the table and have to make a move..then i bust out ...In the Limit tournaments this strategy works well for me, but in the NL it just doesnt work for me...I played in the main event last year and lasted two days, but started with 10,000 in chips...Now when i start with 1500 in chips i only seem to last a couple of hours. Im curious on how different i should play when im only starting with 1500 compared to 10,000....I think that you have to catch cards early in order to survive the blinds where in the big tournaments I can sit and wait for the premium hands. I posted this to see different types of strategy that successful players use. any insight would be greatThanks againMatt
