Seems only fitting given the other thread. These are not my favorites per se, but the MCs most important and influential to the course of rap history.

1) Rakim
2) KRS-One
3) Melle Mel
4) LL Cool J
5) Big Daddy Kane

honorable mentions to Chuck D, Kool G Rap, Grandmaster Caz et al

It is lame to last 20 years in a genre wherein expected shelf life is 1/10th that.

There is no BIG without predecessors. That is all.

Will Smith, deemed a gimmick rapper, holds an incredibly valuable niche in hip hop history. His cadence, humor, and persona influenced a lot of rappers. And he shaped the way hit songs are crafted and written.

Especially his stuff with Jazzy Jeff. I would consider him a pioneer of bringing rap to the suburbs. I know for a fact that's the first "rap" album I bought/listened to when I was like 8

I guess this is all unnecessary rambling because Hollywood personifies something I hate about most people. He can take valuable knowledge, stare it right in the fucking face and never let a single sentence absorb into his brain.

Deltron, Q-Tip, KRS-One.
I'm also fed up with the common cold but I just hate to say goodbye.
