So one of the holes in my playing is missing bets on the river or turn when I've made a strong hand (nut straight, set without flush possibility) when I'm out of position. Say by the turn the board is K 6 7 8, I have a 9 10 out of position, my opponent bets big, I smooth call, river is a Q, I'm almost certain he has a K with good kicker or better. Do I make a pot-sized bet, bet small to try to induce a raise, or try to check raise? Currently I'm prone to check or make a small bet (like 1/10 the pot), which works about half of the time. The other half, though, he just calls it or checks through, which makes me lose a huge bet. This rarely happens in limit since C/R would work most of the time, but often happens in NL, and I was wondering how you guys maximize your profits from playing something like this.

I don't like to check the river when i have a big hand. If i make a full house on the flop, i'll check it to the river then make a 4x BB bet. Your opponent will most likely fold or re-raise. He might think you're trying to steal the pot and re-raise, this has happened to me on several occasions.
Hey, I don't have all the answers in life. To be honest, I've failed as much as I've succeeded, but I love my wife, I love my life, and I wish you my kind of success.

By waiting until the river for action, you're missing out on bets you could be gaining if he is on a draw. When he misses his draw, he will probably not pay you off. Bet out on the turn. Make him pay to try to make his hand. If he's got Ks w/ excellent kicker, he'll probably chase you onto the river with TPEK. You should bet out here too. If he puts you on middle pair or K/lower kicker, he'll reraise you.

dont slowplay bet into it. his either going to make a good lay down or his going to pay u off.. if u check raise him then he might think something is up and muck but if u bet into it then he has to make a differcult decision. peace out joel

C/r on the river sucks in limit and no limit hold'em."Bet if you got it." Has always been my theory on poker...that's to be taken with a grain of salt.
