Ok this is gonna be part bad beat story and part looking for some advice. Here's the deal...$20+2 multi-table tourney. 255 people. Here's the hand I need advice on....Blinds are @ 300/600 and I'm in the BB sitting on :hearts7: :diamonds7: with a stack of 15,000. I'm in like 4th outta the 30 people that are left in the tournament. A player in late position goes all in for 5k. I plan on calling if no one else does. 2 players fold and its on the SB. He has a chip stack of about 14,000 so I have to be pretty causious playing versus him. He calls the all in. I think about it for awhile and I finally decide to fold. They show :clubsa: :spadesk: (all in better) and :spadesa: :spades8: (SB). I would have been about a 40/20/20 favorite at this point. Anyway I would have flopped a set and neither of them caught anything. I don't know how much I could have gotten outta the SB because he hit nothing on the board but I still would have won a pretty big hand.===============================Here's the bad beat story. My tournament was going a little sour from then on. I'm left with 9 k now which somehow was good enough to be like 7th outta 16 that were left. Im in late position with :spadesa: :clubsq: . There's one caller before it gets to me. I raise the minimum. Blinds were @ 400/800 so I made it 1600 to go. I get 2 callers...the small blind and the original caller. Flop comes :clubs9: :hearts8: :diamondsq: . Now I know what your thinking..."who has the straight." Thats what I was thinking to so when then both checked to me I bet $1500. I know thats not a huge bet considering the 6k that was in the flop...but I got the BB to fold and the other player called. Turn comes an :clubsa: ...I have 5k now compared to this other players remaining 1500. He checks and I go all in. He calls. I show my 2 pairs and he shows :spadesk: :diamondsk: . He has no flush draws or anything...and the only thing that he could catch was 1 of 2 K's that were left in the deck. And this wouldn't be a bad beat story if that :clubsk: didn't come, so of course it did. I'm left with 3500 in chips and short stack of the tourney. With the blinds on there way. I picked a A x hand and lost...out in 15th place, $51 isn't bad but isn't quite the payoff I was looking for considering $1468 went to the winner. So to some up all I'm looking for is some advice on the first hand (what would you do?)...and for the 2nd hand is for someone to hold me and to say "everything is gonna be ok."

I would have called, just for the fact that if the SB had a pair, he probably would have gone all in to isolate (in case he thought you had an ace, he didn't want you to catch). When he just called, it sounds like he has high cards so that makes you the favorite. As for the bad beat, I feel ya on that. I was in a 790 person $50+5 tourny: I'm one of the shortstacks with about $7000 and blinds are at 500/1000. Several callers and it comes around to me with KK. I go all in and get called by only one person and he has 5 7 offsuit. Of course he catches two runners for a one card straight. The thing I don't get is that he wasn't a chip leader either (not that that's a justifiable reason for calling with a 5 7), he had just about the same number of chips as me. So for that I went out in 34th. Hope that makes your loss a little easier :D

I feel ya brother...i found that two things helped me get over it...taking deep breaths...and counting the 1000 win from my home game over the weekend. :D

Yup, you should've either called preflop in that first one. A PP is a nice hand and you usually call hoping to hit a set. That being said, when a small stack goes all in, it's likely they have high cards that they'll have to hit on the board. So, you're about 50/50 to win and, if you do win, you've moved up in chips and you've knocked out another player, thus giving yourself more cash. Next time, call. If you hit it, you're in great shape. If you don't, hope he doesn't catch his.In regards to the bad beat, that's tough to take. At least you know you're good enough that if you didn't take that beat, you would've been in nice position.

thanks man...I agree with the your analysis on the first hand. I was 95% sure I was gonna call if I was the only one left to call. The call was going to be for about a 1/3 of my chips but I did correctly make it as a coinflip vs him, but when the SB called I didn't like my chances anymore...plus he had about the same stack as me so I really couldn't push him around much.
